Hinge Glueing tips???

I have an old spray can cap, a little one, that is metal. I'll put a little dab of petroleum jelly in it and heat it with my hobby torch until it is quite fluid. I bend the wings of the nylon hinge back out of the way and very carfully dunk just the hinge barrel into the grease. This coats the hinging area so epoxy can't get to it. When gluing it in I slightly thin the epoxy and inject it into the slots cut by a hinge slotter with a syringe and needle...all the way to the bottom of the slot...just a little squirt. Once the hinge is in place I wipe up any excess epoxy with a soft cloth soaked in denatured alcohol. Let the epoxy set and there you go

I got this tip from a fellow club member: Use a broken-off #11 blade to slide and otherwise coax the epoxy into the slot. Wipe off the excess and insert the hinge. It works perfectly for me. No hinge pin lubrication required.

I used to use Epoxy but with the advent of the Pacer HInge Glue p/n PT-55 which is water cleanup I dont have any problems. It is just as strong. Believe me I fly fast and larger planes and have not had a hinge failure! (YET) The water cleanup feature is great. Most LHS have this glue. It also comes with a long tip injector. I use the Klett nylon hinges and then run a 1/32nd music wire the length of ailerons , elevator etc. so they are removable in event of a repair requirement.

OK GUYS, HERES A HINGE TIP THAT WORKS!!!!!
NEEDLESS TO SAY WE HAVE ALL GOTTEN EPOXY ON OUR HINGES AT ONE TIME OR ANOTHER RESULTING IN THEM BEING QUITE STIFF....RIGHT?? WE BEND AND BEND THEM IN AN EFFORT TO LOOSEN THEM. WE EVEN PUT OIL ON THEM, BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO FREE THEM UP LIKE THEY SHOULD BE.....WELL HERES THE ANSWER--------
IF YOU DO HAPPEN TO GET EPOXY ON THEM DURING INSTALLATION... WIPE OFF ALL THE EXCESS BEFORE IT DRIES...LET THE EPOXY ALMOST FULLY CURE( TILL THE HINGES GET PRETTY STIFF) THEN PUT A DROP OF CA DEBONDER ON THE HINGE POINT AND BEND THE HINGE SEVERAL TIMES UNTILL IT BECOMES LOOSE...... PRESTO!!!!!! THE HINGE WILL STAY LOOSE FOREVER...
DONT MOP ON THE DEBONDER, JUST A DROP WILL DO!!! I HAVE DONE THIS FOR ALONG TIME WITH GREAT RESULTS AND NEVER A DEBONDER RELATED FAILURE....LET ME KNOW IF IT WORKS FOR YOU TOO....69455

When you're ready to install the hinges, put the epoxy exactly where it should go, and not where it should _not_ go. And the way to do that is to use [link=http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=34042]these epoxy syringes. [/link]

pinned CA hinges ne 1? your incouraged to get glue in the joint :-D
aside from that... insert the inges dry... drill a hole top and bottom through the TE of hte wind and the LE of the flap right in the middle of the hinge mounting plate... drop a dab of very thin CA then insert a 1/8" dowle and your set :-D
