Hi,
I've got a little sterling SE5A I am going to convert over to rc, I've been thinking about how I'm going to build it for the last few days, while already doing too many projects.....These planes take up too much of my attention........Anyway!
I want to use the supplied coloured tissue, but what is the best way to cover the frames without adding too much weight?
I have covered a few models in tissue and dope, but they were larger models. The dope did add a bit of weight to those models, but it did not matter as much.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks

I have never covered with tissue but I do use Sig Koverall fabric. Instead of dope I use Minwax Polycrilic. It is water based and very light as all the water evaporates when it dries. It dries in less than 30 minutes and it takes about 6 coats (sanding between each coat after coat #3). You do have to paint the model as the Koverall is white and the poly is translucent. I dont know if this method will work for what you are trying to accomplish but it may be worth looking into.

Malgera,
At this excellent site, you can find several articles related to tissue covering:

Instead of dope, these champs have been using a lighter alternative:

If you want to stay with dope - use plenty of thinners - at least 50% .
I use 50/50 on polyester material so tissue should be ok with even more - experiment
keep surfaces vertical when painting on - any dope soaking thru will go to the structure and not form drips in the middle of panels
hope this helps
