Default Alcohol to thin epoxy

I have some 3hr NHP exopy I want to use to coat the tank compartment. What is the correct alcohol to thin or is there something else that should be used to thin the expoxy? Thanks

I use denatured alcohol to thin epoxy for use on foam. Otherwise I thin with acetone or laquer thinner.

Default I agree

The denatured has less water content and is better suited for this type of thing_Bob

You can use 90% Isopropyl alcohol -- 70% is what you normally find at the store and that makes the epoxy rubbery. I get my 90% at Target.

Cheers!

Don't bother to thin it, just put on as thin a coat as you can then gently heat it with your heat gun. It gets very thin and is absorbed into the wood much better. The heat will also speed up the cure. Just don't overdo the heat, don't get it so hot that it bubbles. If you need the strength of epoxy, I recommend that you do not thin it with anything other than the manufactures recommended thinners or you may suffer unwanted complications.

I agree with Rodney, use heat to thin. It's worked great for me so far. I've tried thinning with denatured alcohol, but it's tough to judge how much alcohol to add. Also it makes the cure time take forever!

RODNEY....Right on... one other drawback to thinning epoxy is that it will shrink over time. Especialy if you mix it with micro baloons and thinner(alcohol). If you are using epoxy over c.f. or fiberglass you would be suprised how fast it wicks into the material with a little heat.
