This is field box 3 for me. My first one was a wooden monster that held everything but weighed too much. My next one was a modified tool box but in my effort to lighten up I wound up having to carry the field box and a tool box.
I found the Black and Decker Master Cart at Home Depot for $29! CHEAP!
It is a rolling 2 part tool box. The lower section is perfect for fuel and batteries and also has plenty of room for props and a starter. The top of the toolbox comes off or stays on. It has all the compartments I need for the little stuff. It has a tray for my tools and is deep enough to carry my TX and Hitec field charger plus batteries. I carry so much because I fly at a sod farm in the middle of nowhere. If I don't have something my fly day is over. The pictures will show you what a great box this really is and the kicker is that it fits in the trunk of my Caddy (roof down) with my Knife. HOW MUCH MORE COULD I ASK FOR?!!!!

The front of the top box has a parts bin that detaches. This is where all the little stuff is kept. I have brightened up the bin so you can see it. Just slide the orange latch up and it comes right out with a handle.

Just pop up the handle to drag it to the car and the top box has little orange tabs that you can hook bungies up to.

And that's it. My ultimate field box. I should buy another after this one wears out in 20 or so years. Can you tell I'm excited?

Hi Billy,

Thanks for the photos on your setup. I have one of these "flightboxes" stashed away just waiting for me to find the time to fix it up. I remember walking up to the check out at Home Depot and seeing this thing for $29.00 and thinking that it would make a great flight box. So on the "impluse" I bought it...

Cheers!

Galen

Not any more heavy than my other field box and my tool box (for tools and RX). Plus it has wheels man. It's only heavy until I set it back down on the ground and roll away with my plane in the other hand. That's one trip I make to the flight line.

Yea I purchased one almost like yours from walmart but quickly went to the typical wood tote. I believe you already know I have a trailer so the amount I carry to the pit area is minimal. I had it setup very close to yours, almost the same.

Heres a shot of both of my box's in my trailer.

It looks related to my box.

Since it breaks apart into two pieces lifting it into the car won't be that bad. I expect to replace my Goldberg Pro-Tote, a tackle box, transmitter case, and extra gallon of fuel with this setup. That means one trip each way between the car and the pitts instead of two or three. This setup should also mean less chance of leaving something at home because I forgot to grab one of the other boxes when loading the car...

The only downside is I'll need a seperate cradle like the Robart cradle. However, as my models get bigger the cradle on my Goldberg flight box is becoming too small anyway...

Cheers!

Galen

I used a keyboard stand as a holder for a long time. Maybe I should take pics of it. I don't really use a stand with the Knife since it is a one piece.

I had mine cut and everything installed in about 2 hours. I used a dremmel with the really tough cutting wheel. Not sure of its name but it will cut anything.

I would imagine that would be the fiber reinforced wheels. The regular cutting wheels frag like crazy when you try to cut anything tougher than balsa.

That's it. Everyone should know about those fiber wheels. I use them for everything.

Billy,

Where are you hiding the field battery, I know it's in there somewhere???

Nice job, I'm off to Home Depot this weekend!

Regards,

Al

Also, how do you shield your battery terminals so that nothing goes across them and shorts the battery out?
What is the electronic device to the left of your power panel?

The battery is on the opposite side of the fuel. The only thing down there is the fuel container, some pieces of wood with foam on the ends to hold everything in place, rolls of tape and foam over the top of the battery.
The device is just an old battery tester. I have a connector that will let me test rx and tx (it's a must).

Al Johnson,

If you price check them you might find it cheaper at walmart.

My cost at that time was $24.00
