Glossy Fuel Proof Top Coat

Does a glossy fuel proof top coat (applied over a krylon fast dry spraypaint on a plastic cowling)-exist? I've read a few threads about fuel proofing firewalls by thinning epoxy. Does this provide a decent finish? Thans for your input!

Glossy Clearcoat

Do not use thinned epoxy over paint. That would make a real mess of things.

If you want to make absolutely sure the clearcoat is fuelproof and will not yellow when exposed to the UV rays of the sun, automotive clearcoats are the only way to go. I have never found any other fuelproof clearcoat that does not yellow and darken the paint.

I second that. All hobby clears that I have tried are yellow. Krylon is not fuel proof. Automotive 2-part clear is crystal clear and fuel proof. It is fairly expensive, but if you keep it climate controlled, it will keep a long time.

PS. Be sure to test it on a scrap before committing it to your plane. Also test it over surplus decals if you plan to use them.

CLEAR

What kinda of paint is that that you sprayed the clear over?

Krylon will crack or spider web after awhile under Lustercoat clear. BTDT.

The same stuff....Auto Zone ''engine enamel''....
It is extra resistant to gas and oil....same low price.

I sprayed 4 mist coats of color, and came right in with the
clear....3 coats....10 mins apart....(no runs)

It only comes in basic colors, though.....

Flyboy Dave,

You mentioned, "It is extra resistant to gas and oil..."

How about glow fuel? Can you use it as a clear coat for a model with a glow engine?

Any experience with using it over Rustoleum?

Thanks,

Flyboy Dave...Does the AutoZone clear stay crystal clear over white, or does it cause the white to appear yellowed like other one part clear coats?

Thanks,
Jim
