Radio shack road phantom: crazy fast 11.1v lipo dual 550 12t hobby conversion
I converted this radio shack road phantom 4wd dual motor to a full hobby car and now it runs on 11.1v lipo. Stock it ran about 15mph on 7.2v but just off the conversion and 11.1v lipo it ran an easy 25mph+ and accelerated waaaay quicker. It's actually really fun to drive now that it has power and handles amazing for what it is.
Since that wasnt fast enough i just converted it to twin titan 550 12 turn motors and now it easily goes 40mph+++. Also went from 10 tooth pinions to 13 tooth and it definitely helps top speed. I have built a lot of cars in my time and have never seen a radio shack or non hobby anything modified or not run close to this fast. It takes off like a raped ape and definitely faster than my stampede on brushless and 11.1v lipo.
i couldn't stop laughing at how fast it was while driving it today.
Next I will be radaring it

Video: I was putting around for the first few mins and had a few full throttle passes towards the end. i can get pretty close to full throttle off the line but dont want to be too hard on the gears

I just ran mine two days ago. It's so slow and the front gearbox is worn out so bad that it will jump teeth if you accidentally switch directions on the throttle. I accidentally hit a washout ditch in the road and snapped the left side of the front bumper off. That video you posted makes me laugh. With a tighter steering servo, radio and some real power it does look impressive. I know that those friction dampers aren't quite up to the task though. How long did the transmissions last with yours set up like this?

They've held up for 25+ runs using the 11.1. I greased them throroughly when I swapped the motors and haven't had any issues. They are tough mostly because they are 32 pitch
Running laps on the baseball diamond this thing actually handles good enough to out run my vxl stampede, a 2wd slash and a rc18 buggy all on 11.1 and brushless lol.
for now I'm still running the factory servo arm but it has soo much power it pulls throughout the steering and tries to go nuts under full throttle on cement. Next is to setup a nice servo saver and some oil shocks but for now its fun being able to spank a load of hobby cars on a basically stock radio shack chassis

If I get too much slop in it I will run ball bearings. Im about to do the same conversion on a Nikko Iron Eagle. It shares the identical driveline and suspension but the control arms are mounted wider to fit the bigger spike tires. When I do that one I will run ball bearings on anything possible

Yes it had 380 motors stock. I drilled straight through the screw holes of the motor mount that hold it to the transmission. The 550's lined up then I had to do some fine drilling to get the pinion mesh right.

I'm late to the party! but looking to get one of these going with my frsky controller... Does anyone have a parts list or suggestions?
I already have 3s lipo, receiver and a spare 30a ESC if that is any good?
