Smaller engine?
The maxx engine stock is .15.
I've heard that the XTM .18 gives a little bit more power, but you can always change the gearing to get more power or more speed.

I had an XTM .18 in a T-Maxx, it's on-par with the TRX 2.5 considering power, both produces around 1.33 hp and the XTM will wheelie with an 18 tooth clutchbell. Not sure about reliability, I still have it in my garage and it smokes when I run it, so I'm suspecting it's the internal bearings that are burning up, some compression was lost after 3/4 a gallon too, but generally it's a nice powerful motor and you'll have to cut the crankshaft for the T-Maxx clutchnut (buy the threaded shaft).

i say save longer and get a fantom 18. i dont think it is too much more expensive. it generates a [claimed] 1.95hp at 41,250 rpms. i believe all of it, man this thing hauls. my truck pulls wheelies with a 22t clutchbell as long as it can get grip(stock tires wont grip anything now lol). it is insane. i run is on an average of 310-330 degrees and it runs fantastic. when i take it offroad as long as the engine head isnt smoking and its not choking out and the rpm notes sound about right, i have no trouble running it up to 400 degrees. it is recommended between 280 and 360. as long as you dont run it lean, it will be fine. the only reason it gets to 400 is because i was in the park and dust everywhere was mucking up the air filter and engine head. wasnt lean. it was great.
