Default Diagnosing engine problem

My t-maxx wont stay running long, and when I gun it WOT, it dies, or goes super slow. What are some tests i can do to find the problem? Anything i should know or look for in particular?

the HSN is set out at 2 1/2 , or 1/4 either way. When i give it 1/4 throttle, the engine seems to top out (like im giving it WOT or something). There is plenty of blue smoke coming out the exhaust when it does this to. But when i give it WOT, it will start to go for a fe seconds (but it goes really sluggish), then the engine will die.
I found that i can kick up dirt only if i give it WOT from a stand still, the 1/4 throttle doesnt give that power. anything in between 1/4 and WOT seems to be unstable.
I replaced the manifold gasket, the glow plug, and there seems to be good compression in the engine. It is using an MIP pipe (goes out the back of the truck)

Did you check for an air leak at the base of the carb? Also make sure the bellows on the carb slide is seated correctly

I'm sorry, I assumed you had a 2.5. The bellows is the blue rubber that covers the slide. If its loose from the carb housing you could get a slight air leak there. Also if its off debris can scratch the slide causing an even bigger leak. Spray some WD40 around the base of the carb. If the engine stumbles when you spray around the base or engine backplate then you have a leak.
