Default Diffs?

I currently have my T-Maxx apart and was wondering if I need do anything in the way of maintenance with my differentials before I put it back together. I currently have stock diffs and have not done anything with them since I bought it in May.

Thanks,

Brandon

You can take them apart clean, inspect for ware and lube them up and put them back in. It's also a good idea to shim your diffs. Your LHS should have the shims you will need to do the job. P.S. shimming is for taking the play out of the gear mesh which if done right will prevent ware.

Thanks,

Is there a particular lube I should use on the gears and where do I shim them?

Thanks,

Brandon

For lube i use some 30W motor oil just put it all over the gears before putting it together, never shimmed mine my self and mine are fine with my Mach .26 but i know if you have allot of play it will messup the mesh and cause brakage or big time ware.

oh ya to shim them put it where the play is, take the CVD off the diff and put the shim(s) on, then put your CVD back on and see if you still have allot of play, if not you got it!

Here's the definitive "Diff Shimming" guide!!!

http://maxxpitstop.com/tech.php?aid=41

You can use 6mm Calendra Racing aluminum shims OR Traxxas 6mm Teflon shims. Aluminum certainly will hold up better, and you'll be surprised, those Calendra shims are IN STOCK at most hobby stores!!

Thanks everyone,

I am going to go ahead and take them apart tonight. Hopefully when I get done they will still function properly.

On the flip side of things I try to take pretty good care of my truck, and I could not believe the little things that need repair on my truck. I noticed the items as I was giving it a 100% break done and cleaning.

Thanks,

Brandon
