looking at getting a new one. I see that there is one with a esc and one with mechanical speed control. how much better is the esc? i ask because i can get the mechanical locally, but would have to order the esc version. I try to support local shops if I can. But I also don't want to buy an inferior product. If I could, I would even buy the mechanical version and an esc from my local shop. not sure if that would work, but maybe run more $$ through the local boys.

i would buy the chepst one with the msc and then yank it out and stick a decent quality esc in there

Well, to answer your question the ESC is MUCH better. (a lot) But like he said, it wouldn't be a bad idea to get the one with an MSC and swap it out for a better ESC. (if you dont mind spending an extra $50 or so)

I put a esc on one of my cars and it was about 1 million times better than the mechanical set up. the esc was about 50$ and worth every penny!

that traxxas esc can only handle like the motor that is stock and it sucks
