Default Traxxas Stampede XL-5 Question

About how long of runtime would the Traxxas Stampede XL-5 get with this battery

Venom 6-Cell 1800Mah Nicd Stick

http://www.rcplanet.com/ProductDeta...NR1530&CartID=2

This battery would work right?

Thanks!

This is my same question but I know you need at least a 3000 and I think nicads are not a good choice

get a 7 cell more power (you have to mod the battery compartment though)

also as high mah as you can get like 4000mah or more for extended run times and more power lol

I'd estimate 9 minutes on the 1800 and 15 on the 3000 for good hard running.

eight cells might be to much voltage for the xl5, hump bach 7 cells work with no moods but a goog 3300 or high pack well be worth your money if you have a desent charger

Cut the chassis out at front and rear so it lays flat. Mount rx and esc somewhere else.

You might be getting some motor problems rather than battery. If you ran stock gearing with 8 cells then the motor may have been overheated. You would smell it and feel it way too hot to hold. I'd gear down by using pinion with 2-3 less teeth with every increase in 1 battery cell.

6 cell gering remove 2 teeth for 7 cell , remove 2 more teeth for 8 cell.

Ok, your going from 6 to 7 cells so decrease the teeth on the pinion. Runtime is also an indicator as it will be short if the vehicle is overgeared and the batt will be hot. The stampede was always geared a bit on the high side anyways especially if the terrain is rough and grassy. For a smooth parking lot the gearing can be a lot faster cuz it's so much easier to move the vehicle and there's no drag.

i have it on an 19teeth on the pinion gear so should i leave it for ow and when i boost up to a better motor decrease it by 2?
for now i will just get a new idler gear i think that might be it

The idler simply sets there and spins, it transfers the power from gear to gear and either it is good or it is broke.

On the pinion gear, you should use one with 2 less teeth than what you are currently running. If you leave the same gear when going to 7 cells then it in effect is "gearing it up" with the higher voltage and will make the vehicle a lot faster and require a lot more current to propel.
