Default EZ start(cheezy start) problem(s)

Ok folks......its time to pick ur brain(s) again on this one; I seem to be having a problem with the ezstart; whenever I take the plug out and put the ez start wand into the plug attatched to the wire harness and press the starter button, it will spin over, but only for a very short time, and then it will stop. When the plug is in, it wont turn the engine over at all. Ive tried peak charging my battery again(3000ma) till it was nice and toasty warm, Ive tried it with the plug in, with the plug out, and now the motor doesn't want to seem to turn over at all. I know some of u may think otherwise of the ezstart; but I personally want to keep it for now as I dont really have money to do otherwise at the present time.....

It is probably one of the two things, either you battery has seen it's last day or the EZ-Start motor is toast.

might be:

1. loose connector-check wirings and the solder
2. flooded engine

Already checked the wiring connections and checked for a flooded engine, but neither is the case here...but thanks for the ideas...already been there done that and still I got nothing....

My guess is the geartrain or motor in the EZ start system. I doubt its a flooded engine because you've opened it up and it still happens.

i would have to agree with the above statment, and that it sounds like your battery pack do you have another one to try?

You may want to try another battery.

There are several things I'd check. It sounds like you've already hit some of them, but when I had problems with my EZ-start... these were the problems I had:

1. Wires / connectors were broken and/or shorting out

2. EZ-start battery is toast. (even when you peak charge it, it doesn't mean it's still a good battery)

3. EZ-start motor is toast (that was the last straw with mine...)

4. Gearing inside the EZ-start assembly is binding (I opened mine up and threw some white lithium grease in it every so-often)

5. EZ-start harness is bad

6. EZ-start wand is bad.

That's what I would check. I spent a lot of time working on my EZ-start... (I used to land right on it when I botched a flip) and eventually changed to a pull-start due to availability (the LHS had a pull-start... I'd have to order an EZ-start... wanted to drive that day... you do the math)

Wow are these EZ Starts that bad? i was going to get one today. I have the roto start and am getting tired of carrying my truck-drill-igniter-radio-and tools. plus my drill is cheap and only give me 4 to 5 starts before it starts dying out. this is more compact and will illiminate carrying 2 items. does it work on any engine? or just the 3.3? I have the 2.5R TMAXX.
thanks guys.

No they aren't that bad its just that sometimes these minor "glitches" pop up outta the blue atter all it is a motor connected to a gear box. and btw thanks to everyone that has contributed ideas to me. The problem was I simply needed to lubricate the gears inside the ezstart motor gear box because they were binding due to running the gears "dry". So I just thew some black grease onto the gears and now everything is fine. I did however have 1 motor burn out on me so I had to replace that. But now everything is good to go. And yes to answer ur question it should fit the 2.5R tmaxx. [8D]

I used to HATE pull starts... but then I realized that if it's tuned right.... it starts within the first few pulls.

QFT!!!!!
if it's close to a good tune, shouldn't take more than a few pulls.
using an EZ start can open up a whole new can of worms. like if the engine is flooding, the EZ start has the ability to "overcome" a hydro-lock condition by breaking engine components...nice.

Actually, the EZ-start generally senses a hydro-locked engine (by the resistance given in the motor) I can see a pull starter ripping apart a hydro-locked motor if one is not careful.
