I just went out and ran one of my trucks. It would not stay running without power to yhe glow plug until I used the hair dryer on it.

That's just shortcutting the normal engine warm up. If you had left the ignitor on and let the engine warm normally it would still have run fine once it was up to temp. With the OP's stated ambiant temps I seriously doubt that is his problem. Though I do take your point about extreme cold being a factor.

plug hanging from the desiels around here are to power BLOCK HEATERS. Without them we could not start our desiels in the winter
I am very well aware of what block heaters are for/do. And it really has very little to do with compression. It only indirectly affects compression in that with the engine componants/fluids being warmer it allows the engine to spin faster which will increase the heat that compressing the gasses in the cylinder causes. Those same things are advantages to gassoline engines in extreme cold also. Having lived in Miniapolis in the winter where the temps were 0F or below for a week at a time and below freezing for well over a month straight I well understand how extreme cold can affect engines.

I'm guessing that the extreme cold probably has at least something to do with it not wanting to stay running in the cold. The best thing that comes to my mind at the moment is to like take it out to ur garage or some other place that has ventilation, and start it, and let it warm up before taking it out into the extreme cold....

Did not get a chance to play with it yesterday I will try it out today. Saturday the new plug seemed to make a differnece but I only had 10 minutes to adjust it. I am doing it in my garage. Its the only place for me to smoke my cigars inside!!

I got it running. When I was out there I richened it up. I will go out and check where the needles are sitting and update you guys after I put the kids to sleep, but I think I richened it quite a bit. I think my problem was that I was trying to tune both the HSN and the LSN at the same time. So I set the LSN to the stock setting and worked on the HSN. Stupid me, of course.

4 1/4 turns out. I still need to fine tune it but ran around the garage and driveway pretty well. Thanks everyone.
