anyone have any ideas for engines that might work for it? I am already thinking about finding suitable ones that will remain completely enclosed within the cowl. I would not want to chop up this bird!!! Maybe some RCV's?

I too am on the list for the B-25 (who knows how far down), so it may be a while before mine shows up. I am also wondering about engines. I was thinking a pair of Saito .82's. The plane is spec'd for .70's and I know the Saitos are strong engines. Would this be too much or a good combo? Just trying to get some of the extras lined up and maybe break in the engines before the plane arrives.

my marutaka dc_3 with 2 saito 30:s and air loisirs p-38 with 2 saito 56:s,they are no speedballs but have enough power for my kind of flying,if i get hold of a b-25 i am going to power it with
os 70:s,my experiene is that you can do allright with a little bit less power on twins than you might think,the main thing is that they are reliable and throttles well/bokis

I guess I'm still undecided about engines too. The Saito 82 would be a good choice, it's the same size as the Saito 72 with more power and weighs 17.6 oz. The RCV 91 CD which I am considering weighs 28.2 oz but the plane may need the extra weight foreword of the C.G., nobody knows yet, however this is not an issue if you intend to "slope-soar" it.

Expecting a shipment from ESM next week, but unfortunately only one B-25 at this time. Plenty of Beavers, Hurricanes, Rush and Adrenaline 3Ds etc. are included in this shipment, but the B-25 is not due in here again until May/June due to the heavy demand.

IDIGBO, since you have one of these maybe you can answer a few questions. I have been thinking about many scale options. Is there room to cut in a bomb bay and/or gear doors? The wings on the KMP website look built up, can lights be added? And do you have any idea what the weight is? Are the wings one piece? The Fly RC article about the KMP P-38 shows that only the outer wing panels are removable and held on by rubber bands. Doesn't seem too reliable but I guess it works. Any comments would be appreciated.

Hi all, recieved my engines for it today, 2 x RCV 90CD, even these motors stick out a bit from the cowls, which are suprisingly small in diameter. About 12mm of the head sticks out but no exhaust will stick out though. Haven't fitted them yet, just a quick look. There is scope for an opening bomb bay as the one piece wing mounts up into the fuselage, with the portion of fuselage under the wing being a separate, non structural moulding. You can fit gear doors to it, although none are in the kit. The retract bay is covered by a moulding which has a hole for the leg to pass through. The weight seems reasonable from what I have together at the moment, with the engines in the nacelles, and a largish (2 x 2000) battery in the nose, looks like the CofG is going to be pretty achievable, without lots of ballast. Lighter motors might need some though, as the RCV are a reasonable weight. Really don't know what the weight is going to be, but reckon somewhere between 15 to 17 lb, but that is just a guess. The weathering on mine is done with graphite dust, exhaust stains done in grey first, then blacky browns, applied with an airbrush. Rivets and chipped paint is enamel, applied with a brush. The effect was intended to make the model look a bit more real at a glance, without taking hours to do. The stars and bars, badges and lettering are all printed on matt vinyl, and actually stuck really well to the matt finish, I was going to paint them all on, but decided to try the stickers before I started, just to see what they are like, glad I did, saved me hours!

Bokis, here are a couple of pics of the wheel bays. On the sample I got, the wheels are the wrong way round on the leg, that is the wheel is on the inside of the leg. As you can see from the pic, the retract mount is cut to one side, so modding so the retract is on the other side of the nacelle is not an option without major surgery. The solution works even better however. All you have to do is angle the unit in the original mount. This means the wheel track is much greater (and closer to scale) than standard, plus as the wheel goes up it lies slightly canted over, making more room for a slightly bigger, more scale mainwheel. Plus the wheel is on the right side when down, winner!

The bare airframe, with retracts fitted weighs just under 10lb, so with a maximum of 6lb of gear to go in, the final AUW should be 15 / 16 lb, another winner!

Thanks for the great pics. I hate to keep bugging you for info but you are doing such a great job. How are the wings bolted on (top/bottom) the fuse? I assume the wing servos are directly in front of the controlling surface under a hatch. How about the tail control surfaces? Are there dual servos for both rudder and elevator? And where are they located- in the tail or further up in the fuse.

Mike, as this was a pre production sample, there was no storybook printed when I recieved the Mitchell, so I am assembling either how I think they have supplied the bits, or how I want to do it. The wing is mounted with 4 bolts, two at the front and two at the back. This I assume is how ESM intended, but I might include some locating dowels to take any shearing loads off the mounting bolts, as a mainwheel hitting a bump will try to twist the wing back on that side, increasing the risk of a bolt shearing. All wing servo's are like you guessed, standard in fit, behind hatches on the underside. There is supposed to be 4 servo's for the flaps, one to each bit, but I have linked both port (and starboard) flaps together with a torque rod through the nacelle, saving half the servo count for the flaps. The flaps are quite small so a servo each side will cope with ease.
The elevator link should be a servo up in the front of the fuselage, with a forked pushrod to drive separate elevators. This I didn't do. As the tailplane is removable (and I am guessing it was designed to be) opening the elevator clevises every time was, is a no no so I have a single servo in the tailplane, driving an internal short rod to an internal linkage for the elevators. The rudder linkage seems to give you two options in the kit. First is a bowden cable from a central servo (where my elevator servo now lives) out through tubes to each rudder. Second is mini servos in the underside of the tailplane, at each end so short direct linkages are required. The second is the route I am going down. Two minis for the rudders, a single in the middle for the elevator. Better to have short direct linkages in my view.

Just talked to Matt (4:30 pm Ohio time EST) and he said they just got them from the port
(delayed by inspections-probably some RC'ers!).
He says they are incredible.
They are beginning to ship them out today.
They will be shipped via Fedex and there are two boxes.
Mines going out today (I guess it helps to order on April 7!).
From Washington state, it'll take 5-6 days (bummer).
