Tim: I have not built a stock Contender before so I can not compare the effect of the tail in flight .. I have tried full defection both ways on the rudder and have NO coupling effect ...now this may be the wing tips in play or the larger rudder and shape that i used again not sure.

What I do know so far is it is very Stable ...Fast and looks cool with the "T" tail in flight more flight test to come.

Cheers

Pete, Good videos. That 2/60 is one fast plane. The twin sync seems to work well
as the 2/60 sounds like it's almost running on one engine. Would like to see more
videos of the 2/60 (and Contender). Good show.

Pete, If I was one of your flying buddies I would act like I didn't know how
to work a camera just so I could fly your planes also.

Have not been out flying the twin as of late ...seems the TwinSync unit has a bug in it and will be sending the unit in for a update this week. I could switch to a Y harness and fly but I would have to rewire a lot so another couple of weeks waiting for the replacement is OK.

I picked up one of these kits on RCU and am building it now. I started on the fuse first. I'm worn out already just from trying to shape the pieces so I can sheet the sides! I'm guessing that this is what's referred to as a 'craftsman kit'. The one I got has the balsa blocks. I've never seen hunks of balsa this big. It seems a shame to have to sand and whittle them down so much.

Blade47, I was looking at your post 209 that shows the nose retract mounting. You went with a 'firewall' mount for that. It looks to me like you doubled up the F1 former. Is that true?

Thanks
Kerry

Great to hear that some one is building the 260. I hope you add your build to this thread. Yes I changed the F1 to 1/4" ply from the light wood ....you can see the burn marks on the ends where I tried to make it perfect to the outline of the former supplied .

Look forward to your build this winter.

I also have some mods to mine that i will post as I go along.

Cheers

Kerry :

How you doing ??

Is your kit the 2/40 from Pica ? or the 2/60 like Pete's ?

I have the 2/40 from Pica but still havnt started it.

We lost our Duelist exspert a few months ago, " Bill " but Mr. Flemming may chime in with us. He is an exspert too.

I say us because I want to watch your build too. lol lol lol ...

God Bless you Bill

It's the 60 size. I'll see about posting some pictures.

Wasn't planning anything special with this build. Just hoping to not screw it up too much.

I've built maybe 10 kits, but this is the first plane that didn't come with any instructions.

I see, so you just build from the plans...

Ya, I prefer instructions too...
I just built a Bristol F2b and it was like that too.
You just build from notes on the plans.
At least the plans were numbered on mine.
I guess it was kinda like instructions....There were 16 sheets numbered 1 through 16 but I prefer a booklet with steps to check off.

I saw that thread over on RC Groups. It's obvious that I can't teach you very much. 16 SHEETS!!! Wow! This plane has 1. Not too many notes, and very little detail. Oh well, at least nobody can say the plane doesn't look right.

Is anybody else worried that there's no shear web in the wings? Makes me a little nervous. I may go ahead and add some. Seems like there should be some out to at least the nacelles. Don't think it'll add much weight, plus it's right over the CG. And I'm not planning for this to be a 3D-capable plane anyway.

Kerrydell,

I think I remember the shear web question asked before. The answer was that seeing as the wing is completely sheeted, that it isn't necessary.

Ya the webbing on a fully sheeted wing probably isnt neccassary but it wouldnt hurt anything if you just want to do it I dont think.

Anyone know if pica is making the duellist in either the 2/40 or 2/60....either arf or build up.

I believe COX is making the Duelist 2/40 as an arf. Check your LHS.
Cedar Hobbies (ceddarhobbies.net) has a 2/60 arf called the Phoenix that is very similar to the 2/60 Duelist. Don't know if they still carry it or not. It has different rudder shape and no cowls on the nacelles.

I am flying the Phoenix while my 2/60 Duelist waits for me to build it.
Since the Phoenix flies as a sport twin, I'm considering building my Super Duelist as a speed ship with twin K&B 1.00 ducted fan engines with Rear exhaust pipes.

Actually Cedar Hobbies had the F7F Tigercat, I looked at it once at a flyin I went to and I dont know much about twin airplanes but I believe it was a pretty nice plane.
Cedar Hobbies has a bad reputation for poor quality but I believe these people giving this reputation are confusing a lightly built plane to poor quality because I have there little Fokker DR I and it is very nice.
Anyway here is there site http://www.cedarhobbies.net/
They arent exspecting anymore F7F Tigercats until next year though....

I noticed that they dont have the price of the F7F tigercat but it was around $350.00 when they were in stock a few months ago...

If you dig back through this thread, you'll see that Northeast Aerodynamics was going to do a Duellist ART. I thought that project had died when Bill Robison did. I just checked NEA's web site and found that they intend to come out with it. Good news!!!

Here's a link.

Well, I realized I made a couple of mistakes. I forgot to put in the plywood backup piece between ribs 1 and 2. This goes against the back of the leading edge and provides something solid for the wing dowels to go into. The other thing I realized is that I've already glued the bottom on the nacelles and I didn't put any holes or blind nuts in for mounting the engines.

RATS!!! [:'(]

2 steps forward and 1 step back.

Kerry
