RE: Twin Otter 125inch wingspan
John's first addendum to the plans suggests adding 1/8" plywood strips to brace the plywood flap and aileron hinge pieces which attach to the wing.
This is an aileron hinge piece with a spacer that will be used.
I jigged these pieces for accuracy in assembly including drilling holes for the bushings.

Had to go back quite a few posts to find John's website again. Some new readers might not realize kits are available. Here it is again......

I just got my plans last week, and they look great. I don't plan on starting until much later this year. It will give my time to get bigger work benches! I am going to go with entirely scratch built. I'm going electric, and I think I can lighten the airframe quite a bit. I will be putting a set of floats on mine. Probably be making a fiberglass nose too, for the short nosed version that we use in the Canadian Forces. For some Twin Otter inspiration:

My 100 inch Otter had a blue styrofoam dock billet carved to shape for the fuse. My then 2 year old daughter and I went to the Coeur d'Alene Airport with a Sureform Rasp, a hunk of styrofoam, lawnchair, and few toys over a few evenings as I carved it to shape sitting next to the full scale ship. I can't tell you the looks I got from commuters and private pilots as they taxied by the guy holding the big blue fish!

I've sent John at Johnsplans and kits a few emails about ordering plans for the 1/6 scale version but no response. Is he still delivering plans and semi-kits?

This thread hasn't seen any posts for 5 months, so....
I am modifying the nacelles to include two exit air ducts for cooling; These provide about 1 1/8 sq. inch of exhaust air and are somewhat scale. (These help to explain why this build is progressing at a snail's pace.)

Mine is a variation on a design that appeared in one of the modeling magazines about 10 years ago, but I didn't keep a copy. The original used a shop vac. Mine is larger and hooked up to my 6 inch dust collection system with an Oneida Air cyclone.
It works great.

Hi there,
Been sitting on just about everything I need to start, except time. I was thinking a pair of DLE-30's might be a good match, if I could keep the AUW around the 35 pound range. Anyway, glad to see you back on your build!
Jeff
