For those of you using Saito 82 4 strokes - I did the maiden flight on mine today. Had 4 flights altogether. The Saitos flew the plane great, but takeoffs were better if full flaps were used rather than using no flaps at all. Also, plane seems to fly fairly well on one engine. I had some engine difficulties and had to do 3 dead stick landings. The Cessna does glide well with full flaps, and landing speed does not have to be real fast.

Link to a video of my 310 flying during the day and night

Stop talking about twin sync and that sync.....Let's see more videos of this plane guys !!.
excuse the bumpy landings. flying was done at less than half throttle, trying to get scale speed.
What do you guys think, reckon it's better than gas powered ? How about the sound of those motors.
enjoy
looking forward to seeing ur guys planes.

tks Bob, that is 900watts at the prop, and assuming a 75% efficient electric motor 1200watts from the battery.. did you feel it had enough power to get off grass?
ORIGINAL: herm
how many rpms are you getting and what size props are you using with the saito 82 4strk?

m898,
Great video. The scale flying along with the night shots were welcome to see. Please tell us about the last two A/C in the video, looked like a Baron and a Citation.

i must admit, there hasnt been much comment on the video in this forum. Anti-Electric ?
The last two planes were definitely a Baron and Citation, belonging to a friend of mine. Both planes are scratch built. The Citation has interior lights that come on when the landing lights are activated. There is also a microprocessor that controls the landing gear doors and retract system - the doors open then the retracts go down and then close and vice versa all on one switch.
both planes are powered by Hacker inrunners aswell as the 310.

I'm probably like a lot in that I dabble with the lower end of the electric spectrum, a few Alfa Models and some other small A/C. Even with this small exposure I'm convinced electrics will play an increasing role in the future of this hobby. I grew up with glow fuel and still get the same kick I got after firing up my Wen-Mac King Cobra many, many years ago. All in all if it's got anything to do with ensuring the future of this hobby, I'm excited.

I made my first flight on Saturday. I'm using two OS 46 FXs turning 11x7 APCs at about 11,300. That's about 10lbs of thrust on my 20lb Cessna 310. i was flying off of a grass field, so on take off I put in a few degrees of flaps and it was off in no time. Once in the air I felt the airplane was heavy and slow during the climb, even after retracting flaps. Once I reached a safer altitude I leveled off and flew a few trips around the 'patch'. Strait and level flight was normal, but turns felt heavy. Landing required a few attempts, due to a higer idle, but the 310 came in at a descent speed and about 1'' of flaps and landed nicely

I think you will find that the 46's are not as strong as you would like. I have 50's in mine and wish I had put in the 55's instead. It is still a great flying plane and looks awesome in the sky.
Good Luck,

I have to agree. My 310 doesn't seem to perform as well as the Top Flite video with the 46 AXs. I was shaking to bad to continue flying, so I will have to reevaluate on the second flight, with calmer nerves and fingers of course. I do wish I had the extra $300 dollars for the 55s though. I'm also going to experiment with an 11x8 and 11x6 prop, etc. to see if I can get a few more pounds of thrust. Has everyone posted 'first flight' reports?

I've tried APC and they're good for speed, but they have no balls.
For stump-pulling power I use nothing but Graupner.
I'm not one of those people who are usually picky about things like props. I'll just throw any old thing od the front and go flying. And I've tried different props on the same plane and found varying degrees of difference, but nothing to write home about.
But the first time I tried a Graupner, I said "WOW". There was a NOTICABLE difference in power. Not speed, mind you, power.
Since moveing to MN I can't get them at my LHS anymore, but you can get them online here:

Minnflyer,
Thanks....
Have you tried the three bladed Graupners on other airframes. I will not have a prop clearance issue with the 310, but both my Dual Ace and Cox Duelist have clearance problems.
Thanks,
Bo

Yes, I am using a Graupner 12x8 3-blade on my GP Seawind - excellent pulling power
BTW, I forgot to mention that another nice feature about them is that they have some weight to them - this gives a flywheel effect and helps you get a really smooth idle

Minnflyer,
How do you like the Seawind..I've heard some negatives on it.
My club has several float flys every year and I've been looking at amphibians.
Thanks,
Bo
