CMP Mosquito / Saito 30 Four Strokes.
Hello twin flyers,
I have a reliable pair of Saito 30 Four stroke engines. I was wondering if anyone has tried these in the CMP Mosquito? The kit says it was designed for 30 size four stroke engines. I was wondering if anyone has tried it and what was the performance like.
I was intenting to go real light with the equipment. I have a large collection of 94141 Airtronic servos. These are light weight mini servos I use for Quickie 500s. The idea is to keep the weight to a minimum.
I would appreciate any thoughts or comments on the subject.
Thanks,
DW_Crash

Hi DW,
I think your 30's woiuld be very marginal on power. The review in Airborne magazine used 32's and they recommended 52's. I've got magnum 52's in mine and the power is awesome. Have a look at this thread http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_2007938/tm.htm
theres about 20 pages of stuff to get through but it's worth it!!

Dave,
Thanks for the thoughts. I tried going through the 20 pages. I got lost trying to sort out what people were saying about power. I was looking for some info as to powering the model as per the manufacturer suggestion. I get the feeling this is optimistic....

How big is the CMP Mossie? My scratch Mossie is 54" wingspan, and runs on twin Norvel .15's About 5 lbs, I believe.
I have a Saito .30, and I would say it is like a weak .25. Sounds great, though. I thought my Mossie might be about right for twin Saito .30's. It flies well on the .15's, but a Mossie shouldn't just fly -- it should scream.

One of the club members flew his with a couple of Saito 30's and it was enough to fly but nothing extra. Looked and sounded neat in the air but didn't last long.

I flew mine on 46 La's thinking that would be plenty ...but due to the extra ballast to ballance they were marginal at best ......lost an engine, it tipped stalled and snapped into a spin down wind returning to earth in a very untidy manner[:-].
The next one was powered by .46 AXs.....now that was a rocket ship.......... [X(]!
if it aint over powered.....it's under powered
Go with the 52 four bangers........
cheers

I was going to go with similar in mine till I felt the weight of the completed wings... I've changed to a couple of 46's just to be safe.
Hope the quality of the paint finish is better on yours.... I just have to look at mine and the paint falls off. I ended up weathering it to look like a real beat-up machine and shooting a satin varnish over it for protection.
regards
Scott
