It looks like I'm in the market for a new P-38 as I crashed my built-up Wing Aircraft version yesterday. [
]A year and a half in the making, now scrap. I did salvage the working parts. It was electric.
A caution that others may know, but I didn't. It had counter-rotating props. On the bench during the
salvage work I discovered that all the screws on the engine mount and the engine, were loose a
turn or so.
Yes, I used locking coumpound . when I assembled it. Maybe not enough??.
So while looking for another kit/arf, I came across this thread and looked through it from the begining.
I did skip sections. Now the question.
Is the 53" kit from Nitro or the 90" version the better kit.??
And whats the final opinion of Nitro Models and their support.??
How about an opinion on AK Models.?
I'm wanting to just build a plan jane version (Electric) NO retracts.
Is there sufficient room in the fuseledges/engine nacelles to install the equipment that you need to
make the 53 or the 90" version electric.
Frank
By the way, what's the URL for AK Models??

Frank, I've answered a lot of your questions over on Gary's forum about his.
I built mine as an electric, so holler if you need a hand. Also Mike Pope has built an electric version too. I believe he goes by MPope here on RCU.
Only info I have on AK is I have one of their small Spitfires. Nice little no frills bird.
More then likely, I be willing to guess N/P, Raidentech, A/K and the rest are all made at one or two of the same Factories... Like CMP.

At this point, I'm not going to get either one. I leave in two weeks for an extended trip
up the middle to Glacier N.P. and then west to go down the coast, so I don't want to tie
up any money on something that I'll not be able to get flying right away.
But when I get back !!!
Assuming that I have any money left of course.
Glacier Girl: didn't you sell your after you had put all that work into it.
You were the builder that did retracts and several other things. Correct??

Frank, yep that was me. I tend to do stuff like that. Heck I gave away almost my entire fleet of planes this year. Kept my Magister, Hangar 9 Camel, and a couple of foamies.
Figured it was easier not to have to pack em all up for the move to Florida, and my flying buds are sure happy. LOL.
But not to be deterred. I'm still building. Got another P-38 today. Talk about a squint build!!!!!
I'll probably be blind after building this one. Going to see if I can find a set of brushless motors for it. The motor in the pic is a 130 brushed, so you can see how small everything is going to have to be.
Doubt I'll be able to fit retracts in this one.

I don't know what a 130 is, but try:
www.skysharkrc.com
They have a deal going now on brushless .10 EQV. with a free ESC.
That might interest you.

The problem (for me) is that the smaller ones get beyond my eyeball range.
Anything over 150 yds and I'm toast.
I went through three (count em 3) little 20" Bobcat like fanjets before
I figured that out.

Oh well, no biggie.
Hey, maybe you should have your eyes checked. Don't laugh, I had a similar problem.
I can see perfect up close like reading, and count the antlers on a buck at 300 yards with the naked eye.
ButI would loose orientation on smaller birds at roughtly 100 yards a lot.
Finally admmitted I'm getting old, and went to the eye doc. Got a pair of glasses and holy bat man, like night and day now. And honestly I've saved a couple of birds already that before would have been toast.
