Well as promised here are a couple pics of my progress. I found a few discrepancies between the patterns and the plans so I'm laying them on the plans to custom fit and this is slowing me down a bit. First was the dihedral braces. Too much dihedral at the tip, so I redid this to give me the 4" that it calls for on the plans. I also noticed the landing gear block location on the pattern is different than the plan.
The formers are finished except the centers need cut out. The ribs and doublers are sanded but need the spar, brace and other cutouts finished. I also used 1/4" ply rather than the 3/16" it called for on the patterns thanks to Bill D. for the heads up on this.

Thisstrangeengine, looking good, and it won't take long before it'll be something that will take up the entire dining room table. Seeing the new plans makes me wonder if my old plans from 30 years ago are much different. I don't remember having any changes I had to make when I built mine, but that was a few moons back and my mental retention is lacking.[]

Thanks for replies guys, I know this is a large model but to be honest it is'nt much different than any other I've done. The parts are just a whole lot bigger! Now imagine drawing your own plans and starting completely from scratch. I have done it more than a few times, and I even have an 80" Piper Cherokee I started drawing a couple years ago. That's another thread I'll save for the future.
Anyway I traced and cut out all of the ribs for the fin and have the stabilizer ribs ready to cut out. Had to stop for work again so I guess I'll get back to it by the weekend. I'm having a blast just knowing what all these parts will become!!!

Well I just couldnt stand it any longer! I've been cutting wood for a couple weeks off and on and decided to start building something. I have the fin assembled and ready for final sanding and will probably build the rudder tomorrow. I also worked on drawing the left side of the stabilizer just in case I feel the need to continue. Really wanted to have everything cut first but oh well.
I finally have my wing tubes so the wing might start coming along soon also. I purchased aluminum wing tubes with phenolic sockets from TNTlandinggear and they arrived the other day so the only thing I need for the wing is the landing gear and the landing gear blocks. If anyone has a set of fixed gear wire they'd like to part with it would save me alot of bending.
Anyway some more pics for now...

Engine,
Send me your address, and I'll send you mine. I'm pretty sure my kit has them, and I will be installing retracts, so I won't need them.
THanks!

What retracts are you guys using?
I looked at Robart and the set for the 310 was close to 800.00
A little expensive for me. Spring Air are a little better price at 300.00

I am with you on this one! The 800 is difficult to swallow indeed. The 310 cries out for retracted gear during flight and the neat factor gear up on take off and gear down on downwind is in a class all by itself. From what I have seen of Spring Air the Robart is a bunch more attractive. Maybe WalMart will start offering Robart!?

Just keep watching the Accessories section of RCU. Some really nice gear pops up from time to time and a reasonable price You might have to modify the strut length but it would be worth it.

Hi Guys

Just picked me up original Bud Nosen 310 kit. Plan to install retracts, flaps and pair of dle 30's. Read through all your post's and lot of great information. Plan to start the build in about a month. Need to find a nose gear. I have set of Sierra retracts for the mains.

Hey TSE,

Have you considered just getting some Robart Robostruts instead of using wire gear?

On a Giant Sweet'N Low Stick I'm staging right now I have Robostruts and I'm going to test out some fixed gear mounts from Fults.

I can see where you could make this system modular so when you got up the funds for retracts you could just pull the fixed gear plates out and fit in the retract plates. Then use your same Robostruts and wheels on the retracts.

Just a thought before you permanently glue in fixed wire gear blocks into the wings.

Here is the link to the flux gear, pan down to Universal Gear.

Those look really nice AW. I was looking on some of the websites like tower and such for the nosegear like that but came up empty.
I got a little more done today. Went into the man-cave for a while and cut out the centers of the bulkheads, next I think I'll try to clean up the ply rib doublers that I cut last week.
I'm getting close to being done the cutting process except for some of the stuff I need to fit as I go. Let the fun begin!!!

Hello all
Well I made a little advancement today, Went to a swap meet this AM. Picked up a few Items
nothing big. Then I brought the 310 wing in to work on it. Has to seperate the wing into 3 Pieces.
Got 1 side done took about 2 hours but managed to seperate it between the ribs, Will need some filling and sanding but over all
not too bad. It was a Royal PITA. will have to replace the Alum tubes in the out board panel but that is about it.
See Photos.
The first is where i trimmed the monocoat to see the Joint, 2nd is the end result.
