which P38 to get??
I saw them both at the Toledo Show earlier this month. In my view, the KMP P-38 wins hands down. It is a much better looking P-38 to start with, comes equipped with pneumatic retracts and is $300 cheaper than the VQ/Morris one.
Things I liked about the KMP P-38: 1. Fuselage and both booms are fiberglass. 2. Overall fit of parts is excellent. 3. Very robust mountings for the retract mechanisms. 4. Supplied retracts appear to be a clone of Spring-Air retracts. Things I didn't like about the VQ/Morris P-38: 1. The covering wasn't done very well. 2. They attempted to do a "weathering" on the covering which looks pretty cheesy and overdone, as usual. Get this, they only applied this weathering on the wing! Nowhere else on the plane. 3. The fit of the fiberglass parts was pretty crude in comparison to the KMP P-38. 4. $300 more expensive and DOES NOT come with retracts. 5. The tail booms are built up, not fiberglass as with the KMP. The size is virtually identical for both aircraft. KMP's is not due to be released until June, I believe. It is well worth the wait. |

I agree with Steve on the Morris P-38. They had it in Austin last weekend. It is a nice model but the covering and parts fit leaves a lot to be desired. The retracts and flaps were done well but in my opinion not nearly worth the high price tag. I didn't see the model fly. From what I heard I don't think they did fly it.
I have no experience with the KMP P-38 so I can not comment there. David |

guys thank you very much for your experienced opinion, I sincerely appreciate it.
After that one fellow was hootin and hollerin on all of his posts about how great the morris was , I thought i might get more responses , but he seems to have quited down quite a bit |

Very nice
Does that include me? I like the Peashooter. Just out of interest ;I’ve got a mate who flies a P47 ARTF with a fibreglass fuse, the exact copy of your 52 version. It’s supplied by Flair, are they your U.K. importer? Colin. |
which P38 to get??
Well.
When I see almost the same airplane offered by two suppliers... VQ/Morris - lots of plastic, no retracts, $900. KMP - No ABS, fiberglass, retracts included, $550. Looks like no contest to me. Bill. |
P-38
Bill.....What is the W/S, Length and approx built weight for these planes..........Bill....

which P38 to get??
WB1 Bill:
Found I was a little off on the prices, the KMP is $500 and the VQ/Morris is $800. Both are 83" span, and for the same range engines. The KMP isa hair under 60" in length, the VQ is 57.5" length. KMP doesn't list an estimated weight, but it should be similar to the VQ's range of 14.5 to 16.5 pounds. Morris states that the VQ's air scoops and main gear doors are ABS plastic, the KMP is all wood, foam, and fiberglass. Then, with these facts in mind, the KMP is a good buy in today's market. And considering the lack of retracts, the CORRECT price for the VQ/Morris P-38 is no more than $300. Or the KMP should sell around $1100. Remember, please, this is just my opinion. But I think logic bears me out. Bill. PS: Andrew Kondor has not offered to pay me for the plug, but if he wants to send me a free kit I wouldn't turn it down. Haw. wr. |

thanks for the plug Bill!
These are hard to get and I only want them if people are truely sincere. Those are the ones that really mean something. For a free kit......these plugs better keep coming!! ;) Andrew Kondor KMP |

Andrew:
How many plugs do you need? Ten? Here they are. Plug.Plug.Plug.Plug.Plug. Plug.Plug.Plug.Plug.Plug. Now you need my mailing address... Haw. But my comments are indeed sincere. Bill. |

The morris VQ p-38 seems to be more scale. better wing tip shape and better nose shape.but i am biased i have one here to look at from all angles.

scale dail:
But is the VQ P-38 $500 more scale? That's how much more the VQ costs when you add an average set of retracts. And if you are planning to put an ARF into a scale contest a niggly thing like the wingtip shape is just barely a start toward making the plane competetive. Bill. |

P38
Hi
Quantum models have a very good picture of the V.Q.P38 on their web-site home page. looks very scale to me ;an impressive piece of kit. All the Kmp models have an uncanny resemblance to the Flair ARTF product range, and very good they are too. If this is true, I may get to see the P38 one day, in the flesh????? Colin. On another crap day in England. |

Thanks for the picture of the KMP p-38. now i REALLY know the VQ p-38 is better.scale fidelity is most important for me. take both airplanes to the flying field set them next to each other and the VQ p-38 will look way more scale. all that fiberglass in the KMP p-38 is great if you plan on bouncing it off the ground all the time. but i couldn't live with that grass green anti glare panels, strip ailerons, too wide wingtips, nose wheel to far back, tiny little non scale flaps, and nose to pointed.i'm glad i had a choice.although i have to admit its a miracle to have any arf p-38! i've suffered through 2 royal p-38s and they are as scale as you sand them.

Better check
It seems to me I remember hearing early on the the rudders were being enlarged a little for better flight, so if the scale is important, better check.
Take care Jim |

On another crap day in England. And NO they are NOT the same as the flair arf's. I've had three flair arf's (imported in the US as GSP). Never again. I wanted the F4U Corsair, and read the reviews on this site on the GSP Corsair (same as Flairs) and was not impressed, sounded just like the 3 kits I had already had deallings with. However last weekend I was at Sandown and saw YT had these great looking kits, asked them lots of questions, and got them to open a few boxes to prove they were not Flair clones. No way are they the same as Flairs/GSP's, although similar specs, thats all they share. got me money out there and then, and ordered the F4U Corsair from them. |
