I was thinking about getting one of these....How do you think the Traxxas 550 12T motor would fit in one of these with a cheap ESC? Is this motor too powerful?

the 550 will work, but please use a good high end esc. a cheap one will go up in smoke with high amperage draw that the sled and the 550 put on the esc. good luck.

[8D] hi niceorange i have the same sled, was talking to a friend of mine and he agreed a belt driven system is the way to go. Ccould you send me detailed info as to all the hop ups you have made so far. New to electric used to nitro planes had to have a ski doo. But it's very slow needs more speed. There is a lot of suspension hop up's on this exact link

I used a great planes gear box (3:1 reduction) with a stock 20 turn motor to drive a belt system out of a HPI Pro3 (39tooth spur, 16 tooth pinion). I used a bunch of old stuff I had and a few parts from tower, but I'm happy to say, it runs like a champ. WAY FASTER than before. It will spin the track and donut around now, and jumps over snow banks well too. Only tough part is keeping it upright, as it has a tendency to dig in the track and roll... just like a real sled without the rider to counter balance it. I have a bunch of pictures of the build up if anyone wants to get an idea of what can be done.

Hey niceorange, I'd like to get the pics because I have got to do something with mine, it runs nice and I like how they got the motor sounds for it when it is running, but something has got to be done with the speed, because it makes it quite boring to run. Almost makes you want to throw it in the closet and forget it even exists. on the interactive toy polaris RC's, if you take it all apart and get to the drive wheel for the track, take a small drill bit (1/16th maybe?) and drill from one end to the other right at every little cog on the wheel, then feed a long piece of haywire back and forth through the holes...Before you just had the little cogs and a loose track trying to drive the RC.....it meant slippage...well now with the haywire on the drive wheel, the great big pieces of rubber in the middle of the track that was used as a guide now becomes ur drive rubber and should go inbetween each piece of haywire as the track goes around.....now beef up the motor and u wont have any problems climbing hills!

Here's some pics of the 1963 Moto-ski "Tin Cab" i'm working on now. It has a 9.6v power plant. Notice it is center drive with a
cleated track just like the real thing. I have had lots of fun with these vintage r/c sleds regardless of getting my feet cold going
to tip them back over when they tip, due to how tippy they are. The Nitro powered ones are worse, due to the speed they tip on
a crumb. I always liked that with the real vintage sleds, you had to put more work into driving them, to keep them from tipping.

The best r/c sleds to hop up are the "New brites" MXZ, or the polaris fusion model from Interactive toys. Those smaller scale ones
couldn't handle the power of some real electrronics inside them. It's up to you, i'd like to see if they could handle it.

hi awsom job can you make mine like that? mine are all electrice the sled with out x on windshild has a 19 turn in it with novak esc and jr reciver oil filled shocks the one to the left has the same but an ez start motor its most fast what do you want for that sled?

I have hit 40mph with a Mach .26 motor and the gear ratio I have now. This sled was built for speed. It's gearing is about speed and that is why I built it.
It is moulded with aluminum and then sandwiched with 1 layer of fiberglass clothe on each side. Super strong and can be repaired if need be. The whole sled weighs in at just over 8lbs.
The Track slider (rear end) is a 3 oil shock setup and is adjustable. It is made of light gauge steel and roller wheels are rubber and aluminum with a bearing system.

i have a few mxzs and i see some guys with them studs like clamp onto there tracks i tried it and they all flew off whats the trick?I HAD IT WITH GUYS HEAR KEEPING SECRETS IS THAT WHAT RC IS ABOUTE THERE JUST TOYS!
