RE: walkera 36
Hello Scot,
Do your have the 36 which has the black plastic main and tail rotor parts, or the 36#B blue CNC metal parts?
Some points to check
i) Tail boom is it dead stright?
ii) tail rotor-shaft bearings may be worn-out, is there any free-play?
iii)check the belt tention.
Do you have a manual?

RE: walkera 36
Babyhuey,
The roller is there to ensure maximum engagement of the synchromesh belt. This is a ubiquitous engineering principle, even among RC helicopter manufactures.
So, if this wheel is problematic, then remove it and inspect the bearing, clean and oil, better still replace with new alloy roller and bearing.
Modification:
Replacing the alloy roller and bearing, with two MF52zz 2x5x2.5mm flanged radial bearing, the flanges keep the belt central on the tail rotor synchromesh pinion.
