phjoker those control horns look a little short on your ailerons. My new flying buddy lost his showtime last week because his control arms were to short.
By the way lookin really sharp i like the DA sticker on the cowl adds just enough to make it look better

Hi there.
Here's a quick shot of my install.
I am using an EMCOTEC RV MINI 5 powerbox and 2 x Longgo 2000mah li-po's. Weight wise this set up is only a couple of ounces heavier than a typical dual switch and regulator/battery combo.
My Extra weighs in at 18lbs but I have a 3W motor and canister which is 1.5lbs heavier than DA50-R with pitts muffler.
Tetly..
Don't cut and shut the can!!!! The 3W is designed to run with the 3W canister and header!!.
My initial set-up used the shorter MTW canister but the motor ran ****e and vibrated quite a bit. It is easy to lengthen the canister tunnel and add extra vents for cooling air to escape. Also you might want to cut some film away under the fuz at the back to allow air to escape from the fuz. The pressure build up otherwise will cause the motor to run rough. I have had all these problems and it's taken me 3 months to sort it out, but oh boy it's worth it. The 3W has more power than the DA-50 and it will hover my 18lb model then pull out with good authority to un-limited vertical. I can e-mail you with more pic's if you want.
Regards James.

Thanks for the info James, I already did the cut&shut on the can! we shall see how it runs...
I decided to go for fromeco stuff in the end as smart fly wont answer my emails which left me feeling
a bit annoyed as were kitting out 2 wh extra's and need all the kit.
My servos wont be here till the 12th so im kinda just waiting on bits now, everything else is done
that i can do!. How did your c'o'g work out with the 3w? i was going to tail mount the rudder servo as it feels
pretty nose heavy, but i need to wait and get all the servos in first
.
Cheers dude

With the 3W and canister set up and the li-po's/emcotec powerbox at the rear of the canopy/servo tray and the JR DS8711 mounted in the rear most cutout the balance is spot on 3" back from the wing tip.
Enjoy it !! This plane is phenominal !! it will do it all easily This was my first venture into petrol large models and now I'm hooked.
Here is another shot of the install and the motor mounting. Only the li-po's are now next to the rudder servo to allow for the extra weight of the 3W 'L' can.

Bugger it !! I've only gone and uploaded the same pic twice !! doh.
The elevator servos are in the normal position down the back end and the rudder is pull-pull mounted in the rearmost cut out as can be seen in the pic.
The 3W is around 1.2lbs heavier than the DA but it also has more power !! it is 4.2lbs with ignition. It is turning a 23x8 Mejzlic at 7300 rpm and it's only on it's 4th gallon of gas and running a bit fat.

Guy's
Here (hopefully) are some photo's of my installation across the pond in the UK. I'm using a 3W 55I with a MTW canister. Futaba metal gear 3305's all round except rudder which is on a 1/4 scale 3306. Quick UK metal fittings including servo arms and mounting plates. 2 x 2500 NiMh batteries one each for flight pack and ignition. 2 x on board battery checkers. Futaba heavy duty switches and PCM reciever with whip aerial. Wing bags by Caroline and decals by Aero3DGFX.com. Mejzlik Carbon spinner. All up weight who cares! She is a beautiful and has unlimited performance. This is my first wildhare model and I am extremely impressed. Just for the record I'm not a 3D pilot as I prefer IMAC so the speed characteristics and handling are superb for that. Thanks to the boys at Probuild UK for all their help with my initial purchase.

My weight is 16# 4 oz with the standard muffler, cf landing gear, cf wing tube, 4800 li-on main batt, 2400 li-on ign batt, no choke servo and no wheel pants, 4" true turn spinner with lightened back plate, cf tail wheel, 4" kevan tires, 3 switches and 3 regs, with 2 oz of extra epoxy in places and 2 oz of ca all over the plane.
dont get to happy wwith weight savings over my 3 switches and regs they are mpi miracle switches with integrated regs that weigh about 1.1 oz each.

Tetly !!
I haven't used the (iffy cotton reels) as standoffs They were only a trial that produced more vibration !!.
Carle. I don't know about your install but my 3W-55 ran crap on the MTW canister !! I'd changed to the 3W 'L' can and lengthened the tunnel a bit but the motor now runs amazing !! far less vibration and more mid-range / top end power. Well worth the extra work.
Have you used the 3W alloy swan neck manifold ? and how's it holding up ? mine has been binned due to fracturing around the first bend !!. I now have a hybrid stainless steel one that is spot on!!
