V1 Edge Cowl - Anyone got one?
I...err...well...i kinda butchered one up pretty good getting it ready for paint.
Tom, got a new one stashed somewhere I can buy from ya?
Would a V2 cowl work if the ring was pulled out?
Anyone got one laying around that isn't cut up too much?
Just trying to see what i can lay my hands on

Send an email to Charlie at [email protected]. As I understand it, he was the original manufacturer of the V1 in Thailand. He may still have one laying around. It's even possible that he might have an unpainted one.

Let me know what you find out, I bought out a guy a while back and ther was a cowl in the mix, not in the greatest shape but I think it could be patched/ repaired. I crashed mine last year and have just finished the majority of the repair work and can repair the original cowl after all.

Well, I'd rather avoid the overseas shipping and such, in either event, kingdom...

Can you elaborate a little on exactly what is different from the previous version? I nose planted mine yesterday and need to rebuild everything from wing leading edge forward.

Give me a few days, and I'll post em in this thread. I'll put some measurements on em, and anything else you need, just ask, and i'll get the ruler out.

All the V2 and later model cowls are 10+ inches wide and mount differently. The V1 is less than 9'' wide.

I believe the most notable difference in cowls, from a quick glance, would be that the V1 cowl mounts with screws on the side, while the V2 cowl mounts using a cowl ring that slides into hidden 'hooks" on the bottom of the firewall.
(Tom, please correct me if I'm wrong there)

I did, indeed, find a source for a new one...as well as kingdom802 having his old one. As it happens, however, I decided to stick with my original, and attempt repair...
I've got the old one "ready" to paint. Trying a trick passed on by a buddy...using light drywall spackle to fill flaws/gouges. I would have expected it would crack easily with vibration, but he swears by it (and I've seen some of his cowls...they're flawless after many flights) and so far, at least, I've been unable to crack any of the filed areas despite bending and beating on the cowl pretty good.
So...guess we'll see.
