Ok Dan I got your programmer now how do I program these elevator servos? ANybody have a quick and easy way to setup these elevators with the Hitec programmer?

It makes things easier if you have the mechanicals as close to equal as possible. IE control rod's and such equal.

RE: Newly redesigned WH Extra build thread

Download some protractors from the net.
Fit them to your servos so you can measure how far your servo arm travel.
Sharpen a 4-40 bolt and thread it into your servo arm so you get a good read on the protractor.
Set your radios ATV's 10 from max.
Program exact center, program 50 to 55 degrees of travel each way from center.
Program the other servo the same.
Unhook the programmer and check the throw with your radio.
Reprogram servos if you have to.
Adjust each pushrod so both elevators are centered with the servos are centered.
Adjust horn hieght so the elev. halves match.
You're done:D
Don't use your radio center or end points to make the halves match, reprogram your servos.
If you start using your radio to match things up, the halves won't travel at the same time.
Usually takes me three or four tries to get the servos programmed right

I agree on the radio tips, dont ask me how I know this, but make sure you start you radio at 0 center and trim/sub trim 0 LoL.

Tom or anyone with information a question, for the days when there is little to no wind and not wanting to fly right past the runway on landing approaches I was thinking of putting in a little aileron reflex. Any idea of the effect? Or do I just need a parachute????
I have seen this done on different wing configurations and didnt seem to cause any adverse effects. Thanks.

I have heard of toghtening up the wheel collars so there is just a little bit of drag, kinda works like a brake. On the other hand just slow it down...this thing floats in for landings. When there is no wind it is a bit more difficult but don't be afraid just practice real shallow approaches, then when you get to the runway you just set her down...I also use an idle down on my TX which helps too on landings. PRACTICE.....low approaches.

Just my 2 cents....

Just wiggle the rudder a little, the added drag from yawing back and forth will slow it right down. A little practice with this works wonders.

Be careful, it will slow down quickly, and don't use too much.

That's exactly how I do it. It works great!

I am currently running a 22 x 8 NX prop, would say a 23 x 8 prop having more disc area to be effective or still not much to really notice?
Thanks for the info guys, I will use it later today when I go out, I am still amazed at how slow this bird will fly almost scary hehehehe, and obviously I still have more room to slow it down LoL.

Greg, Like the big klutz I am, I broke my 22 X 8 Xoar prop and couldn't get another quickly to replace it. So on the advice of Tom I got a 23 X 10 NX prop from him and put it on. At first it seemed like too much prop as the plane seemed to be sluggish on up lines. It was all in my head, the plane rocks with that prop and I'm keeping it on there. I did have to re-tune the Hi speed needle a bit but that's another story.

To answer you question about approach speeds, it won't help a bit. It actually comes in a little faster. You just have to learn how to slow the plane down before you get over the runway. Don't expect to bleed off all your airspeed on final approach, you need to do all your slowing down on the downwind and base legs of your approach and then use the throttle to maintain airspeed on final to touchdown.

I have learned how to slip mine sideways to lose altitude and airspeed and it makes for a much better landing and looks neat as all get out to see the Extra coming in crabbed to one side. Be prepared to let off and straighten out before you touchdown or you might find yourself stalled and falling out of the air.

Thanks for the info! Guess I can quite being a wuss and just slow it down more LoL! The Extra will fly so much slower than my WH Edge (albeit a bit overweight) that I am still getting used to it. Still amazed at how different it is compared to the Edge, but Edges seem to not like me LoL.

Finally weighed mine today, 17 lbs 1 ounce. I was kinda surprised but it climbs like a scalded monkey and pulls out of a hover just fine so I guess it ain't too heavy.

RE: Newly redesigned WH Extra build thread

Mine is 16 lbs 6 oz's, and could be lighter easy enough with CF stuff, however it is totally not needed at all! Heck just a CF wing tube would put me almost 16 even LoL. Sucker would never land, would have to catch it like a foamy!!!

Shazaam, how did you lose 10 ounces over mine? Make that 11 Ounces

Jim not sure how yours is equipped, mine has the MVVS 45 mag case, single receiver battery, and lithiums all the way around, pull pull rudder on a Hitec 5955.
Just kept everything simple and light. Checked with a digital postal scale supposedly calibrated.

I would have had a ridiculously good flight vid of mine except my bud sold his cam looking to get a new one. If he gets a new cam before theres no flying days left ill have a nice vid for yous guys.

Wish I had a video camera to capture some flights, be a good learning tool as well to see what I was doing good and bad.
Wonder if I can convince the "boss" she needs one hehehehehe.

I am tossing around the idea of putting a smoke system on my Wild Hare Extra, anyone have any thoughts or suggestions? This will be my first smoke system attempt. I understand the basics and such, however there seems to be many many choices of pumps and such out there.
Also anyone install smoke on their new WH Extra? Have PICs of your smoke installation?? Thanks.

Greg:

For smoke you really ought to have a 41% plane. :D

I'm kidding of course, but I've never done smoke so I hope others can help.

RE: Newly redesigned WH Extra build thread

If it's a 28% Extra it most certainly can be done. In the original version you could easily fit a 16 ounce smoke tank along side a 24 ounce thank if you layed them on their sides. Using the recommended tank position in the plane maintains the center of gravity with the tanks empty of full. You may want to go with twin 16 ounce tanks to keep the weight down a little.

Here is a thread where somebody put smoke on a Hare
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_42...tm.htm#4208025

A long time ago I saw a video of a 28% hare with smoke. There was funny commentary in the background "ohhh-hea ohhh-yea, where the plane, wheres the plane, ahh bro I'm loosing it again" I am not sure where I found this video, but it was good.
