RE: Newly redesigned WH Extra build thread
1290 sounds right, the wing is a little smaller than the old Extras because the plane is lighter.
To answer about the 3w75, it will probably fit just fine. If you think putting an engine of that size on an airframe that weighs 9.3 pounds is a good idea, then go for it. I'd suggest the Cap 91" for that engine, it would be a better match. TF |

One thing that we all need to do is to check the spark plug. I forgot that one little item and guess what? She took a dirt nap on the maiden flight due to the plug coming loose in a low vertical snap roll. Ran out of air speed, altitude, and ideas all at the same time.
Please check to make SURE the plug is tight. It could save your plane. |

Looking at the pictures of the bottom of the cowl in post #77, I have some concerns about engine cooling. There's not much head hanging out the bottom of this one and the cowl is cut tight to the exhaust. I know that it was noted that everything is not mounted up yet, but don't forget that 3 or 4 to 1 cooling air to hot air exit area ratio. Not enough hot air exit area is a very fast way to cook an engine. That or the engine will always be sagging after a few minutes of flight and you'll be banging your head against the wall trying to figure what's wrong with the engine.
Once that spinner back plate goes on there's not much intake area left over, and the biggest part of that is cut of from moving air by the prop arc itself. Keep cooling in mind folks. |
RE: Newly redesigned WH Extra build thread
SilverSurfer, no worries I plan to cut the covering exposing the exit cooling holes in the bottom of the fuse in the canister compartment for cooling.
I just have not done this or taken PICs of it to post yet. |

I'm really impressed with the new 300, the fit and finish surpassed all expectations. The wings are very light and were a perfect fit making this a very easy arf to build.

RE: Newly redesigned WH Extra build thread
What length servo arm are you guys using for the pull-pull rudder? Are you crossing the cables, if so should I use an offset arm? Has there been any issue with the cables rubbing any formers as was the case on some of the old 28% planes?
|
RE: Newly redesigned WH Extra build thread
3" standard non-offset dont cross
|
RE: Newly redesigned WH Extra build thread
how do you know when to cross or not to cross the rudder pull/pull?
|
RE: Newly redesigned WH Extra build thread
Try this on for size, might help you understand the pull pull set up.

Hey Guys,
I just got my WH Extra today and wanted to post a pic of the red, yellow, black sceme. It looks awsome. I was truely impressed the way the plane was packaged. I arrived in perfect condition. |
RE: Newly redesigned WH Extra build thread
bluehakbm,
did the paint on your cowel match up pretty good? My red is darker and looks like it did not go on so even, some splaches. Won't be too hard to repaint, just curious what you thought about yours, the pics look pretty good. |
RE: Newly redesigned WH Extra build thread
Tricktrack,
My cowl is almost a perfect match to the covering. Striping on the cowl was perfect on the left side but just a tad off on the right side. I'm sorry to hear yours was not right. |
RE: Newly redesigned WH Extra build thread
Nothing to be sorry about, I think it will be an easy fix. Just a little taping and a nice even coat of paint. I am not too worried about it.
I really like the overall look of the plane. The colors look real good together. Should be fun in the sky. I like the bigger fuse too. I had an Edge and this Extra almost looks like a 33% next to it with the extra bulk in the fuse. |

I built it pretty much stock with a DA50,pitts muffler,3x Fromeco 2400MAH batteries. I had hoped to come in a little lighter but I'll fly her as is for now. |

OOOpppppssssss.......Those are the old pictures of the cowl. Sorry. I re-did the ign. wiring wire after those pictures.

I went to the auto parts store and got two pieces of Door Edge Guard. It's rubber, about 1/4" wide X 24" long and just fits over the cut edge of the fiberglass perfectly. Also makes it look like a factory job. A little thin CA on the inside and it's stuck. Puts a nice finish to the opening in the cowl.
