This video was overdue,I think it shows all you need to know about the performance envelope, which looks great.
Should be on WH site.
I still havent bought my 50cc airframe yet,got some funding issues. This Sukhoi is still a real possibility, the video
is a good demonstration.

The Toc 53 is a great engine, as is the DA and the DL. I think the DL is proving Itself to be a good contender for best bang for the buck but it is still relativly new in the 50cc scene.

The TOC 53 is a fine engine and from what ive seen at the local field can pull around an 18# plane with lots of authority and good verticle.

My pleasure Lee, (just another oppurtunity to show off my purdy Sukhoi !)
And, I just love to watch this kid fly.

How old ?
Me... or the Spuds pilot ?
I'm 52 going on 16 and the dog is a vintage 1987 Spuds plush doll that I got on E-Bay/collectables for $7 shipped.

I would appreciate any comments or pictures on the cutting of the cowl for a DL50/DA50 using a Pitts wrap around muffler. The problem with my Jtec muffler is the pipes are slightly wider than the openning between the bottom two tee nuts for holding the cowl on. Before I start cutting would someone would post a picture of the bottom of their cowl?

Hey Jim
I meant the kid flyen, not you, and as they say you are only young once, but you can always be immature??
Iam going to have to go back to the start and read all this soon as I get my plane??????
I see that wild hare are not supporting the DL50 engine, Iam sort of glad I have gone with the DA motor!!!!
Does anybody have a wiring diagram for 2 rx batterys and switches please, Ive opted for 2 rx bats @ 6volt and 1 for the ingnition.

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the kind words from the video.[8D]
As for how the plane fly’s, you will not regret buying one for yourself. As Jim said, the plane is in the 18lbs. range and has one heck of a pull out from hover. The plane is very light flying and is perfect for a beginning to mid level IMAC setup.
The mixing for knife edge is minimal with only about 2-3% needed for Rudd. To Elev. No roll coupling needed to be mixed out.
As for Throttle management during 3D maneuvers, the hovers from 1/3 to 1/2 and all the rolling harriers are no more than 1/4.
Like I said before, this plane is a great IMAC and 3D flyer. It will execute any maneuver thrown at it and keep on going.
I didn't push the plane hard since it only had 3 or 4 flights previously and plus the engine was rich on high and low end.
With a little more radio programming to get the expo curves and such completed the plane will be perfect[sm=thumbup.gif].

Just installed my new KS canister in the WH Sukhoi. Boy I really can'nt believe how Quiet this system is. It's one thing to hear them on someone else plane, but when your use to hearing the stock muffler and you switch its really amazing. The response is instant which justifies spending the extra dough on a fast servo. I definitly have to move up to a 23inch prop.

Also found a box of the elusive NGK CM6 plugs, if anyone needs one or two let me know. I'm selling them for 8 bucks plus shipping.

I can't tell you how disappointed I am. I've been waiting with great anticipation and excitement to trim the canopy to fit, so what does Tom do, he has it neatly trimmed for us. Seriously Tom, I just hate trimming the darn things, thanks! With a little bit of effort, I might be able to startup the engine tomorrow and set the throws.

Hi fearless
Excuse my ignorance but what is roll coupling???? and how do you dial it in or out
Please.
I will have my Sukhoi here on monday or tuesday, and after your video, Iam really getting excited about flying this
as it my first petrol plane.

Coupling is when moving one control surface causes the aircraft to also reacts in an axis other than axis that the surface is associated, ie when then you move the rudder the aircraft may also roll in the same direction (this is really visible in aircraft with large dihedrals like trainers), you can "dial" this out by programming your radio to give a bit of opposite aileron to rudder (I programmed in 2% opposite aileron, but it depends on plane set-up and throws). There is also quite often coupling between the rudder and pitch, ie when you input rudder the nose tends to pitch down, again this can be "dialled" out by programming the radio to give some up elevator when the rudder is moved (again how much is dependent on your aircraft set-up and what you like).

Here is a great link to a trimming chart [link=http://www.nsrca.org/technical/trimming/TrimmingChart.pdf]Trimming Chart[/link] and a [link=http://www.mini-iac.com/EditModule.aspx?tabid=70&mid=476&def=News%20Articl e%20View&ItemId=27]trimming article [/link] that should help you set up your plane for precision flying.

Ok, i am trying to figure out where the elevator servos go?I can see 4 servo bays under the covering,2 above the slots for the rudder cables and 2 under the stabs. One of the servo bays above the rudder slots is not cut out?

Thanks

I used the bays above the slots for the rudder cables, I used a photo from grasshopper in [link=http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=6562686]Post 440[/link] of this thread. I shone a torch down the fuselage to help me find the correct holes.

Hey,

Can anyone point me in the right direction for fuel tank set-up with gas. Ive only messed with 2 and 4 stroke glow and fuel tank set-up is critical with those. I know nothing about gas so any help it appreciated.

rctom 02-03-2008 10:41 AM

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!

Use a pickup line and a vent line, no pressure. Use Tygon fuel line and a gasoline stopper, and make it the same as a glow engine.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!

Fuel tank set up is not as critical in gas because gas engine carbs have a diaphram that works as a pump. As long as you mount the tank on your CG or just ahead of it you should be good. Always use a gasoline compatible stopper in the tank and the correct fuel lines like Tygon (yellow color) never use silicon. Your tank will not need back back pressure from a muffler tap because of the pump. Your vent line should come out of your tank make a loop above the tank and exit out the bottom of the cowl. The loop helps keep fuel running out when your inverted. Also you only need to make a two line set up, tee the line going to the carb. You wont flood during fill up because the diaphram will block the fuel,it pumps as you rotate the prop hope that helps .... Ruski

Hey Tom, I bought the A123 set up from you for my receiver using one battery and one switch. I've read you saying to use one battery with two outputs going into two switches one reason for redundancy but the other for maintaining voltage. Is a single set up like mine not enough voltage? Since I never had a switch or battery fail I thought just to keep it simple.

rctom 02-03-2008 03:29 PM

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!

One switch with one output into the receiver is marginal for a 50cc plane and definitely not enough for a 100cc type plane. I use two connectors not only for the amperage but also in case one should fail or come unplugged.

Any one thing that can bring down the plane if it fails should be examined very carefully.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!

Boy what a day:D, I got in about 10 to 12 flights today on the Sukhoi. Dialed her in pretty good. The KS86 canister is absolutly amazing. Very quiet and with tons of power. I had to use a menz 24x8 that was installed on an evo 58 I once owned. The DL was spinning that prop at around 6600 rpm's. My Evolution only hit about 6500 on a good day. Incredibly smooth and responsive. so much so I have to setup a better throttle curve for 3d because the engine is just way to torquey right know. Before adding the can I had a problem with uplines pulling to the canopy. Tried everything and just could not figure it out. Know with the canister the cg is perfect and she will go straight up and out of site in no time.
Still on the 3rd gallon of 30:1 Lawnboy. Would love to see what she will do on the amsoil. With this much power and a Hitec 5955 on the rudder, knife edge loops are no problem big or small. Tom You might get a few more orders comming in on the sukhoi in the next few days, I was'nt the only one loving the way she flew today...
