RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Thanks for the reply Tom.
My ability to read is good?, my parts availability is bad, I do not seem to have enough eye bolts in my hardware kit and was just after some ideas around this situation, as it turns out (see my last post) I will now have time to puchase more parts and continue building this wonderful plane.:D Lee |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Back again, Have most of the stuff I ordered, so I can resume building ( oh goody)
SAL98 could you please post your set up throws for the different surfaces so I could use this as a quide I test balanced my plane and could get the perfect balance right over the middle of the spar withour any problem, so Iam a very happy person:D With the set up, prehaps Ive missed it in earlier posts?????? RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
My setup is kind of weird right know, I have everything setup for precision or Imac type flying. All my throws at maximum deflect are at a minumum. Elevators only have roughly 25degrees of throw on high rate and ailerons are at about 28degrees. This is to reduce slop and add torque while using the hitec 5625 servos. Also this was done mechanicaly not through the transmitter.
I temporarily ordered new 645 gears to use until I can get the hitec titaniums I really like. With the 5645 gearset I will be able to setup the plane to better suite 3D type flying without worrying about the slop and torque issues. But the titaniums will add the speed and locked in feel this plane deserves. I would just go by Toms recommended throws for a start and then make small changes to suite your feel. The only thing I would suggest to you and anyone flying a larger scale Aerobat for the first time is to make sure your low rate elevator deflection is no more than 15 degrees. On a large plane seeing the surfaces move so little will look rather rediculous at first but just wait until its in the air. That 15 degrees will feel like 35, and forget about it if your tail heavy. Mine is usally at 12 degrees with about 20% expo for nice smooth pattern like flying. Once your all trimmed out and have a feel for the plane this can be increased a bit to suite your style. I also use Fight modes with 3 seperate rates. My mid rates are usally high enough to perform nice snaps and spins. |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Thankyou SAL98
I will be advised by Toms setup and keep in mind your advise on the elevators. Many thanks again Lee |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
howdy folks
Could someone post a pic of the choke servo and set up as iam really just not sure where and how to fit it I know that it is a copy kat thing but saves heaps of ums and ahs. Is anyone using the optic kill switch as a second engine kill I have mounted a battery switch on the outside but am a bit worried that unless Iam at the plane I can not kill the engine, mind you a friend said that the choke will kill the engine????? With the pull pull rudder do people just run the wires out of the fuse or do you fit wear inserts??!!!, do you cross the wires and if this is a good idea are there any tricks to fitting it, it does seem to be a better line for the wires to be crossed over, just that I have never done it, does it change the geometry Geez more questions than a coronial inquest. Lee |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
A chokle servo is a good idea to kill the engine, but you should also set up your throttle to close completely to kill the engine and use the choke only as a backup. This will avoid flooding the engine each time you kill it.
I'd need to know what engine you are using to advise you where to put it. Rudder wires can go straight back and the slots should work fine as supplied. TF |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Thanks for the reply Tom.
Iam using a DA50R, My point with the wires is that they rub on the fuse does everybodys do the same? Lee |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
They can always rub a little, it depends on the legth of the arm in back and ion front. It won't hurt anything.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Beauty thanks I feel better now. Got a photo of the choke servo??

I had a my first mid air collision today, and don't care to have another. Sixty seconds of shear terror and with the coaching of another pilot, I was able to land the plane very gently. Only three planes in the air and we both were both very shocked because we thought we were way clear of each other. He had no damage, but had to clean a little red off his prop from the covering. It could have been a lot, lot worse. Tom has a replacement on the way.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Damm Bad luck, I suppose theres those that have and those that are going to, Still glad to here you will be back in the air real soon.
Hey this is the first plane with this colour scheme i have seen bar my own, nice one mate. Why don't people fit the wheel pants??? Onwards and upwards Lee |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
That is one heck of a job to land the plane with one wing panel in that condition, looks pretty messed up.Thumbs up for staying level headed and making a (sucessfull) attempt to get her home safely.
I guess Wildhare will have some bragging rights on punishment and flyability on their SU26 ;) |

ORIGINAL: LeeHunt Why don't people fit the wheel pants??? Lee Only problem is they load up with the wet (morning dew) grass on our always well manacured grass runway. So much so that it probably alters the balance of the plane sometimes ??? Had my Suki out this weekend, but the Ultimate was really feeling neglected lately, what with the new bird in the hangar and all... so I got in 3 GREAT flights with the BL ship and 2 wonderfull flights with the Ulti. Fantastic Sun AM followed up by some wings and a few BL...;) Jim |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Thanks for the nice remarks. I don't put on the wheel pants because of our grass field. On grass they never hold up, but with that said, I put them on the GP Ultimate that isn't quite ready to maiden yet. I didn't cut the axles and epoxied a piece of hardwood to the inside of the wheel pants on the outboard side with a hole in it that fits over the end of axle. This supports the outboard side of the wheel pant. We'll see if it works.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Chuck,
That's exactly what I did to both sets of pants. ROCK SOLID ! Jim |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Jim,
If they work out on the Ultimate, I'll put them on the Sukhoi. Chuck |

Nice field, Jim. I'm envious.
This is what our field looked like this morning ... [:@] |

Ratchet
Your kidden me mate, humans can't function like that?? can they?? Try cutting a hole out the back of the wheel pants and the debris is forced out, about the size of a large button, it has worked on smaller planes for me. |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Supporting both inside and outside of the wheel pant is the best way to make them last near forever. At least until they run into something. The pants that are only supported behind the wheel vibrate quite a bit and eventually crack and break off.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Hi Lee - I often wonder the same thing. It's snowing here, again, this morning. Another 10-15 cm (6" for the US boyz) is what the weather man has called for.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Hello,
I've been trying to balance my bunny prop and have found it to have what I believe to be a hub balance problem. After a lot of experimenting with adding tape in varying locations on the blades I have found the prop toconsitently come to the same 7 or 8 o'clock position with the same side down. I have added an alarming amount of tape to the opposite side of the hub to get it to balance. So my question is, can I drill the heavy side or add small screws or some other material to the light side? I know the typical approach is to paint or sand as needed but I think if I were to use these methods I would end up with a strange looking propeller that wasn't balanced anyway. Help a newby. Obee |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Most people say the way to add weight to the light side of the hub is to glue some fuzzy-part-of-velcro (using CA and rough up the surface of the prop) material to that side, and then drip CA into it until you achieve adequate balance.
Do not cut away any material and do not add anything that might fly out and hurt somebody. TF |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Thank you Tom I'll give it a go.
Obee |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
There is a great video on how to do this, but RCU won't let me direct you there, even through a PM[>:]. If you want, send me your e-mail, and I will send you a link.;)
