That all depends on your perspective mate. You're talking with another guy, not a shiela;)

Relax mate! your safe, no worries

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
The hole saw idea is so simple it's genious. Oh well, I'll try that next time. I have a 3mm without the choke arm on it. Is there an easy way to add one? I've tried using a steering arm that I drilled out but it stinks.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Give me $10 and I'll give you a new arm.

Hey Tom, how much for a leg?????;)

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Hey Guys another question about the Sukhoi my wings came with the hinges installed with the ailerons on and the hinges on the rudder is installed too I try to pull them and seems like they are really glue on it. I also receive a pack of hinges marked rudder with the plane. Tom is this rigth? I guess I don't have to do nothing else with them ????
Thanks for all you response. |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
I got this one Tom has made it easy for us and gone Quick build so the only thing that is not prehinged or glued is the Rudder because it is easier to mount the engine . Gotta love it but to be on the safe side good you checked. Makes getting your new bird into the air faster !!!!!

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
That's right, the hinging is all done except for 1/2 of the rudder.

Guys I hope I am not a pain in the behind but this is my first gasser ans I try to make the rigth thing I cut and drill my dowels for standoffs and now I try to set up the engine on the plane I read every body else saying that is really easy but for me being my first engine installed I have truble understand the prosess Tom send with plane 2 templates for engines one for a DA and one for the TOC. How I use that template for the toc engine is anybody has a Picture of how or a very good explanation? Once again this is my first gasser but i promised youll guys the second aiplane the I buy I will have more experince doing this and I will probably not asking all this questions Thanks [sm=drowning.gif]
Thanks |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Check the posts on the first few pages of this thread. Pictures and descriptions are all there. It was my first time too, but the pictures made it very easy to mount the engine. (I used to TOC 3mm 53 too.)

Here are a couple of pictures that explain how to use the Templates to find where to drill the engine mounting holes
Start by extending the lines on the cross that should be in the center of the firewall - it will be 1/4 " to the right when facing the front of the plane. Then take the template and place it over the firewall lining up the lines. Mark the holes and you should have it. Bruce |

Hey if it helps I drilled an little hole dead in the centre and drilled through both the template and the firewall then you can move this around and hold it from moving once you drill the first hole, plus you have a pilot hole for drilling the firewall dead centre of the carby I have a DA50R??????????

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
LeeHunt the only problem the I have with your sugesstion is the my firewall came with the hole in the center so I don't have where to hold the templeate> I was cheques the pictures of bruce and I noticed the my plane came with no hole in the center of the firewall.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
When mounting my TOC 53 I used the bolts through the mounting lugs, spacers, washers and nuts.
Tightened them up enough to hold them but enough to move them to line up with the template. Placed the exposed ends of the bolts (1/4 inch +-) through the template far enough to secure it and set the whole thing on the fire wall. Position the engine in relation to cowl, mark an outline of the template and remove the whole thing. Come back to the fire wall with just the template and re- align it with the previously marked outline and mark the holes. there you go just check spacer length for proper cowl prop spacing. OBEE |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Measure the hole at its widest point, using a small square make a vertical line on the left side of the hole just touching its outermost part. Repeat this for the right side of the hole for a vertical line. Now all you have to do is find the center of those two lines. Repeat process for horizontal. This will allow you to find center and to use the template.
I agree that if the lines were already there it would be a BIG HELP. But nonetheless one can still find center. |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
I have a question I have a TOC 3MM and the Honda Sukhoi I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as far as baffling or with cooling the engine in this big cowl the head is kinda down in the cowl and the only holes that are required are for the sparkplug and the muffler pipe only so the rest fits in the cowl. So I was thinking I know thats a BAD thing LOL. Just trying to see if everyone else that has this setup if it works or will I need to baffle it !!!!! Thanks

You will most likely be fine as long as you open up some more exit holes.
Here's how I did mine... others might post up pics of theirs as well. Jim |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
I need some input on where to mount my batteries. I'm considering the area just ahead of the hatch. I'm using the TOC 53 and A123 batteries. My main concern is the cg results with this set up.
Pull Pull carbon tail wheel throttle and choke servos on engine box ign. module on engine box. thanks Obee |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
I put mine just in front of the rudder servo for the pull pull system. I found that you need to keep weight forward not so far back . good idea to have a mock build up to get the positions worked out, with all my good intentions I still ended up with 60g on the front of the engine box.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Oh I used 2 x 6v nicad batterys and a have a DA50. so if you have lighter batterys it should be ok there.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Build the bird, put it together and place items with masking tape on top of the bird till it balances to your like. Then fix them into the bird in those positions.
|
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
I'm at the point where a mock up will work well prior to final assembly. With balancing I'm assuming that the plane should be inverted?
thanks for the assistance Obee |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
suspend the majority of the weight below the wing when balancing. I usually with most of my WH birds have left them upright and used something under the wingtips to balance them. NOT had a problem with this at all, and its worked on 5 of them so far.
|
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
I balance my planes upright. With the WH planes with the removable canopy, I mark the recommended CG on the flat surface of the fuselage that is hidden when the canopy is in place. I then drill a 1/16" dia hole on that surface at the CG, one on each side of the fuselage and screw a hook into each hole. I tie a string between each hook and suspend the assembled plane from a rail on a garage door using some light weight rope. Then it is real easy to move things around to balance the plane. Make sure you lay the canopy on the wing, along side the fuselage, it does effect the CG. Quick, cheap, and accurate.
I used this technique on a GP Ultimate recently by looping a piece of monofilament fishing line at the cg when epoxing the upper wing together. Worked great. I will clip it off once I'm satisfied with the balance. |
