Pull-pull done. elevators on and got the engine tuned up today. waiting on my fueling jug to arrive then I'm off to the field this weekend to maiden I hope. Middle of the tube for the c/g, for my 20cents worth mate. Its as good a place as any to start, they always seem to be tail heavy people tell me and mine was??. I hung mine from the roof with 2 pieces of light cord right on the c/g and it worked fantastic.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
I balanced mine on front half of the wing tube for my maiden this coming Saturday. I made a tray forward of the tank and moved my 2 6v Nimh there. I still had to add some stick-on weight (about 5 oz.) to the engine box. I put a pilot in the cockpit.
|
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
No need to add extra weight, simply make your stand offs a bit longer and move the engine out further. Helps with prop efficency also!
|
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Greg, Could you explain the prop efficency, Iam very interested to learn more.
Regards Lee |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Sheer genious. I learn something every day. How far out from the cowl is allowed till it's defined as ugly? :)
|
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Beauty AND Ugly is in the eye of the beholder!
If I understand it properly, the large round cowling spoils some of the "aerodynamics" of the prop wash, or at least a bit more so than other not quite so large cowls. I have my prop washer face (or spinner backplate for those running one) close to a full 1" forward of the front of the cowl. Certainly helped with the weight distribution issue without adding ANY extra weight in ANY form.... |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Yeah right, what a good idea. Some times things are just right in your face and you dont see them. Quote "if it had been a black snake it would have bit ya mate"
Thanks Greg Lee |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
I moved my engine out another 1/4 of an inch or about a centimeter.. Balanced great so far but have not had a chance to really test her fully with this wind and weather we have been having... The Sukhoi looks fine with the Prop out !!

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
OK the brown truck stopped by and droped of my su26 today. This is one of the nicest birds I have seen yet. I have a couple of questions I hope you guys can help out with. First I am going to be using 5645's on the elevators and ailerons. What size servo arms do you recomend? Secondly I will be running a DL50 for power. What is the proper standoff size to use? Thanks for any help in advance and Tom thanks for a great plane!

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Rich....
I ended up using 1.25 inch arms all around and a 3" full arm for te pull-pull, as for the standoffs read here [link]http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=6893157[/link] |

Mine was maidened today...awesome! 3MM pulled it straight up as long as we pointed it that way. Landings were slow and easy 3 pointers every time. A real joy. The guys that flew it loved it!

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Great looking bird! What pilot did you use? Is that the Great Planes pilot?

I have a 53 in mine with canister. What kind of cooling is required? Did you cut any cooling into the cowl?

Where do you get those clips that you used to hold the fuel lines and cables? Look like they do a great job.

This is what mine looks like...these openings along with the tunnel kept it cool. Unfortunately (or maybe not), I'm using the stock muffler. Not too loud and a nice sound.

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Said I would get some pictures up of my progress, had hope to Maiden this past weekend but health issues and weather got in the way. I posted some pictures one of the other Wild Hare support threads so I will just link to it rather than double posting. As I stated in the other thread I live in a one Bdrm apt so excuse the work shop but I have to sleep their too :D

RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Howdy all.
As a thought I cut my cowling air vents open ( these are the little dumby ones moulded into the cowl for show) and its works a treat as the design sucks air out of the cowling. Just did it with a Dremel and a cut off blade, plus it looks cool. Regards lee Oh broke the wheel pants in the long grass again[:o] |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Hey.... I'd like to see some pics of that cowl !;)
I thought about doin that too. Do you think it is not too flimsy, or prone to vibration cracks at the ends ? Are your wheel pants supported on the outside of the wheel ? Jim |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
Jim.
No I don't think that it would crack, its fiberglass and where its moulded its pretty thick, so if you carefully cut it through from both sides it looks way cool and is really still strong. Be careful not to slip or it looks abit bad (I made one slip only small though, yellow paint is good stuff;)). Yes my wheel pants are supported both sides as per this thread. I really annoy myself sometimes, landed a bit short but then I always seem to do this, I think Iam worried about overshooting the runway. I really think its me that needs supporting both sides:D:D. No just dumb thumbs Me and pictures are not good, but will see how I go this weekend Lee Try it!!!!!! |
RE: 50cc Sukhette Build Thread, now in progress!!
I had a sponsored flyer fly my plane Friday, not Wildhare or Brillelli, bigger that that. Well I'll tell you something, if you can't do any maneuver with this plane it's you, not the plane! This guy did Blenders into climbing flat spins, to rolling harrier loops, he flew it for 15 minutes, saying yea it's a little tail heavy, you have too much down aileron differential, you should check your lateral balance, also check your elevator throws they don't seem equal, expo on the ailerons is a little off, all while putting on the best 3D show I've ever seen, and I make a job of finding 3D videos. Wow, I thought I might be getting 25% out of the plane, now I know I'm getting about 5% at the most. I was so shocked at what this plane can do, I was too embarrassed to fly it again that day. Would you play your piano right after Beethoven played it, that's how I felt.
