Hello Dave, my name is Danny, i have a YS.45 FS...i ordered parts from you all the last week to freshin up my engine as it has been setting for several years ( had never been apart at all ) and when i took it apart to replace the gaskets and plunger and stuff in the pump and carb...when i removed the bolts they were full of aluminum ! Yeaaaa it took the threads out enough that now the bolts will not even snug up with your fingers ! I ordered enough parts to freshin up 3 engines as a buddy of mine has 2 of the same thing.....he took his apart and WALA.....it took the threads out of his also. Is this a common problem with some of the older YS .45's ??? He is afraid to take his other one apart.....what is it they say, 3rd times the charm ? What do you advise ? Ive never had one seconds problem with my engine nor has he, but after stting for several years and not being run we wanted to replace the plungers and things in them just to make sure. It appeared that there may have been some kind of lock tight or something on the threads other than just the aluminum that was there in them, some kind of white looking stuff. Anyways, ill be waiting to hear from you as to what to do now with this striped out carbs that we have.
Thanks, Danny
Thanks, Danny

They are not put together with any thread lock, so my guess is that sitting around caused the oxide on the bolts to break down and weld the bolt to the aluminum housing. When you put these together a little oil on the threads is a good idea.

Thanks Dave, new carb body is coming, ordered it yesterday. I tell ya what, if a guy needed very many parts it would almost be as cheap just to sling the engine he had and go buy a brand spankin new one LOL

Very true in the case of the 45, the other engines aren't quite as bad.
Take a wire wheel to the end threads of the carb holdown bolts and get the black oxide off them, and use a drop of oil when you put them together. You won't have the same problem again.

very true in the case of the 45......why is that so ? one would think that since its the smaller engine of the YS line and its not as an expensive engine as the rest that the parts wouldnt cost as much lol. Or is it the fact that the 45 is a popular engine and YS sells more of them thus the market is better for the parts for them ?
Dave, guys here may not say so, but we all do appreciate you taking the time to do what your doing here !
Yeaa, we got a lil frustrated when things dont work i guess just as you do when things you have dont work right, and we vent and rant and rage here about the problems we are having when things dont work right, but thats human nature i guess. But i think i can speak for most of the YS guys here, we appreciate what your doing and all of the help your giving us !
Thanks, Danny
