Hello,
Is there any performance advantage to removing the baffle from the stock muffler on a YS110? Noise is not a huge issue at my field, and looking to make my warbird scream even more if possible....Not as if the 110 doesn't scream along as it is or anything...
A quick search didn't return anything specific, other than reports that some aftermarket mufflers (e.g. Slimline pitts) allow the engine to "breathe better" and hence increase performance somewhat. Didn't want to go that route necessarily, as the stock muffler fits my cowled installation, but I guess that leads into a second question: do the aftermarket mufflers really make a difference other than a cleaner cowled install?
Thanks in advance for your help...

Take it out, you may or may not notice much difference. If you want an straight pipe, buy a YS 0895 from YS Parts. Contact them at 775-782-4562

Ok, I'll remove the baffle and give it a shot. If anything, I guess I'll get more of that "YS sound" which is great for this application (warbird).
Thanks for the quick response...

Flew it "baffleless" last weekend... difficult to say if there was any improvement since I had to do a fair amount of retuning (the motor is still breaking in, and the weather had changed drastically since the last flying session from cold & damp to very hot & dry), but I was able to get a little over 9000 RPM with a 14x12 APC. I wasn't able to get that before (more like 8800), so if there was an improvement it was minor...
Either way, I do like the sound better without the baffle... so off it stays. Thanks again for your help.

Dave, I'm just finishing a Hanger9 Showtime powered with a YS 110 and was wondering which exhaust system would work best in this setup. I would like something that would angle the pipe down and possibly use the stock muffler. Any suggestions? Thanks Jerry

Nothing with the stock muff. Lots of guys use mufflers from www.pspec.com Use the 90 degree elbow/muffler combo.

Hey Dave,
Do you anticipate the need for needle adjustments upon removal of the baffle? I have now lost the second baffle on my 110, and I'm considering not replacing it. Will I need to richen or lean anything?
Also, any performance gains using the mufflers on pspec.com for the 110?
Thanks,
Kurt
