Hi,
I have been flying my Oxalys 50 with a YS63-S for a while now, and I really enjoy it's reliability and awsome power! As my earier experience is only 2 stroke engines, I hope that some of you could give me a _detailed_ explanation of how to check/adjust valve clearance.
Thanks!
Dag Ragnar

Hi,
This was no rocket science. It was easy to figure out after removing the valve cover. I just wanted to be sure I did it the right way.
Measured the tappet clearance to be a bit more than 0,1mm after approx 12 litres of 30/23 heli fuel. Set both to 0,05mm now. Hopefully the engine runs a good, or even better as before.

Troy,
I noticed a slight performance gain after setting the tappet clearance to 0,05mm. Is this the case if they get too much off the specified gap? Both tappets had slight more than 0,1mm gap before I set them to 0,05mm.
As you problaby notice I don't have very much knowledge with 4 strokes yet. I bought a Oxalys 50 and a YS63S to try these engines out before I go for the real thing (160 or 170) in my 2M pattern plane. After burning about 12 litres of fuel with this combination I think it will be hard to go back to 2 strokes. The engines settings is rock stable, and people ask me if I run a 90 when they see how the plane performs! I have become a true YS fan!
Regards,
Dag Ragnar

Usually you will loose top end performance when the valve tappets get loose. Usually they have to get really big gaps before the engine will be affected on idle and transition.
When the engines are new I run about 2-3 gallons of fuel and check them. Adjust if needed. After about 5-10 gallons I only check them about every 10-15 gallons.
good flying to you
