I have a fairly new ys 110.Runs fine but due to an inflight breakup of the airframe (Thunderstorm encounter..LOL)The engine is now taking a rest.
I have applied the proper after run oil into the carb and top of engine thru the spark plug hole..and spun the engine.
But I have heard other problems result from these engines sitting around, such as the regulator clogging from old fuel still up in there. What do you recommend as the proper proceedure to avoid any dirt or clogging problems until I run it again.
Thanks
Mike

For storage I would recommend running the engine dry at low throttle.
Since its not in the model I would flush the regulator with some denatured alcohol, or straight methanol.
Of note any model engine that hit the ground in crash type situation, like nose first, Its a really good idea to replace the crankshaft bearings. They may feel fine but if they get tweaked its only short order before they will fail. Usually a failure like this is messy and can get very expensive. A bearing job is cheap about $30 for the cost of the bearings.
If you are not comfortable with doing it send it to YS Parts and Service. They will check the engine out and can replace the bearings.
Tell them it was in a crash and you want to replace the bearings. Otherwise they can look it over and the bearing will seem fine. Then 20 flights later you could have metal flying through the inside of the engine. Benn there and done that. I now replace the bearings if I have a crash. Plus its good insurance to make sure nothing else got damaged, and there is no dirt or debris inside it.

So if the engin was running at the time of the crach then the bearings got hit?The plane came in at an angle not 90 deg to the dirt..a nice long skid turning the plane into a garage sale.
Do you know what they charge to do the bearing job at the service?
Will they clean it all out as well.
Thanks your service is always the BEsT!

most likely running or not when it hit the bearings get damaged. The reason is take 10lbs of mass and run into a wall at 80-100mph. Does it really matter if it hits dead on or a glancing blow, there is a chance of tweaking the bearing, getting a flat spot, or just putting side loads on the bearing and race.
If the prop was not broken in the crash, then it might be OK. My opinion: bearings are cheap compared to a new engine. I would call service and see what they charge. I think this time of year is a little slower than in about 4-6weeks. So it might be a good time to send it in.
Call them up and they will give you the scoop. In the end its about how much risk you want to take. For me a crash means new bearings. I usually do it myself, if you have no experience doing this its better to let folks that know what to do perform the work for you.
Yes they will take it all aparts, clean it up and make sure nothing else is damaged. They also run all the engines before sending them back to customers.
