Default ys100fz vs ys120ac differences?

Hi Troy, I did get the Skyshark Christen Eagle II arf I had been talking to you about . It looks very nice It has the 110fz with a Hyde soft mount on the plane. Thank you for your help in answering all my questions about it.
I was just wondering what the preformance differences are between these 2 engines? I have both . The 120ac is mounted on a Goldberg Ultimate at the moment and it does really well with the 120ac. I am thinking that they could both swinga 16x8 apc prop(thats what I use on the 120 at the moment). And what can I expect as far as rpm's,as well as whats the upper limit on the 110fz? Any insight between the difference in running amoung both engines would be appreciated .
Thanks again Troy. You are most helpful for us "less in the know" people ,lol and I greatly value your opinions.
John

Default RE: ys100fz vs ys120ac differences?

I personally thing the 110FZ is a little weak to turn the 16-8. You would really need to be on 30% heli no doubt. The props that work well on the 110FZ are the 15-8 and maybe a 15-10. usually a 14-11 or 14-12.

The New version of the 110S (S version) is much closer to the power of the 120AC but it will lack a little power to the 120AC on the same prop and fuel. I am currently running a 110S on a 15-10 APC on 30% Cool Power heli fuel. My guess is the 16-8 might be close....

The problem is the larger diameter the APC props the heavier they get. This extra mass is what really loads up the engine. Normally a 15-10 to a 16-8 is about the right reduction in pitch the get the extra diameter. However it can be a little tough on the engine as the mass goes up. If you engine was the 110S version I would say it will probably work well. On the older 110FZ it is down about 2-3-400rpm from the newer 110S...so it would likely be a bit heavier load and not work as well.

The rule of thumb is the smaller the engine the higher rpm it needs to run to be happy. So a 110 runs about 9000-9500rpm to be in its happy place and the 120's are about 8600-9200. The 140's are about 8400-8800, and the 160's are about 8100-8500. The 170 is around 7800-8200.

I would run the older 110FZ a little lighter loading. Try the 15-8 APC and see what its rpms are. If its busting 9500 then a 16-8 will likely be around 9000. I would not try to load it up too much and get far below 9000 if you can help it.

The big advantage to the 110FZ or 110S over the 120AC is 1/2 lbs of weight. Literally the 120AC is heavy at about 33-34oz. The 110's are down around 26oz....and making almost the same power. This is huge weight difference on the 10lb models.
