Good choice, Phantom. Just be careful when you glue the hinges in and DON'T over apply the CA!! A lot of guys tend to do that and it ends up crystallizing the hinges, therefore making them very brittle and if you have vibration, then the hinges simply tear apart.
Another tip, seal all the gaps, (ailerons, tail feathers) with clear covering or just use packaging tape and this will help with the hinges, helps prevent dreaded flutter and makes the plane more responsive also.

OK, finally putting together the parts needed to put this bird together and I have a couple of servo questions. The servos need at least 98 oz/in of torque according to the Great Planes tech note and it seems that a fast response (.16 to .18) is desired; at least for the ailerons. So:
1) Would the HS-5665MH be a good candidate for the control surfaces?
2) Would using two of these servos in a pull-push setup be sufficient for the rudder?
Thanks for your help.

I almost lost mine last week. I had just landed from the third flight and was at idle speed and "CRAP", I lost all control. Fortunate for me it was pretty much sitting still. I just finished going through it and apparently last month when I PM'ed it and replaced the battery I did not put the battery strap back on. I am sooooooo happy it did not disconnect while in flight. It is strapped in now and ready for the next trip.

Hi all.
ive been reading this thread for a long time but have missed it for a short while!!
im also the proud owner of one in Ireland mine has a DL50 installed with did have a modified AS power pits muffler highly modified to assist in reducing noise. But sadly it's not good enough and i need to fit a canister to her. Does any one know or having seen one fitted to the ultimate? I realise its going to be ugly hanging underneath but unfortunately it's the price I need to pay to keep the db's to a respectfull level!!
Im also wondering about making a hole under the firewall at the angled section in front of the under crakers to create a possible tunnel?? This may well be stupid but I'm all for suggestions.
Many help would be great.
Thanks

Hi all
I have an Ultimate waiting for assembly in the garage. I also have a 55cc engine waiting...
But...
After seeing this video, I asked myself: "why not electric?"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b3KaImk3wGc
I also found this ad with some pictures of a modified GP Ultimate 1.60.
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2116534
Now the question: I am looking for more information regarding electric conversion of GP Ultimate Biplane 1.60.
Any ideas?
Regards
Agust

Pretty nice!
If they put any more ethanol in our local gas I may be compelled.
Have to fill it with baby powder and put a hole in front of the tail wheel for smoke. ;-)

This thread has been very quiet for a long time.
My Ultimate is still waiting in the box in my garage until I finish some other projects. The EME55-II engine with an electric starter is also waiting... Hopefully I will have more time soon.
Has anybody used this engine in the Ultimate?

I have the plane with DLE 55 and I have EME 60 in a 32% Pi;lot Decathlon. The mounting is the same except for length of stand offs. Power wise both 55cc so no difference. EME 60cc is the smoothest running engine I ever owned and I count my twins in that group! I dont think your electric starter will make it into the airframe, and I don't think it will be missed, my engine starts with no drama. Hope this helps

This was my first GS airplane....got me into IMAC and ever increasing in size airplanes culminating in a 43% Edge and a 42% Dalton 260. I killed it long ago through unintelligent inputs. I just found one for sale local so I jumped on it. It'll be my "cheapo" airplane stuffed with spares I got laying around the shop......DL 50, Hitech 5955/7955's, etc. May even experiment with a gyro and crow....but I'm getting ahead of myself... Cant wait to be aquainted with an old friend!

Speed control: AeroStar Advance 120A ESC Opto, $89.
Programmer for speed control: AeroStar Advance LCD Programming Card, $13.
The old prop is 20"x8". I will probably use an APC-e
You can test the motor in eCalc. Max 80A, 2750 watt. http://www.ecalc.ch/
The motor is very similar to Hacker A60 14L.
The battery will be 10 or 12 cells, 5000 mAh.
(The Coke can is just for size comparision).

I do not like electrics. I do not like the hassle with the batteries and the short flying times. Some people do not mind.
I have seen several failures and crashes due to bad batteries, related electronics etc.
It is nice however, due to their instant power, excellent throttle control and they keep the model clean.

Well....I maidened my "new to me" GP Ulti yesterday......and almost killed it......Was setting up dual rates as someone was talking to me on a 14MZ....yes...a recipe for disaster! Somehow cancelled out my low rate for ailerons and took off with full deflection and no expo.......The landing was embarrassing but it was downwind with no power cause the idle was high and I didn't think I could survive a go-around....be kind in the comments....
