Thanks but I still have 16 planes ready to fly and several more waiting to be built , besides I think the cost of shipping to Alaska would be spendy to say the least.

Your airport sounds like mine and is guarded too.

If anyone would be so kind as to post pics of their plane, the control arm setups, the electronics & throttle setup inside, the engine mounting & ignition, etc. The directions are pretty bad, and this is my first gasser so I don't want to mess anything up! I would GREATLY appreciate!!!

Glad this thread is going again. Started building mine a year or so ago then found this thread when I had issues with landing gear and flying wires. While waiting to see how others dealt with same problems I had, I hung it from the ceiling, placed it on back burner, and moved on to other projects. Now I'm excited to get it going again.

I'm having trouble locating the outer most mounting point on the wings (top and bottom)for the flying wires. My arf came with wires, brackets, clamps, etc. The fuselage has blind nuts for the brackets to mount to and the wheel pants have light ply epoxied inside to mount brackets also. I imagine there are blind nuts in the outer section of the wing, but I can't seem to locate them, and I don't want to tear covering apart to find them either. I was researching that when I found this thread and this got me to thinking about no shock absorbing qualities of the landing gear. This is the biggest plane I own, all my others are 40 & 60 sized, so the thought of damage occurring from landing big plane on unsprung gear never occurred to me until I read this thread.

I appreciate your willingness to help, but in fairness I'll disclaim that mine is s HK model. I understand you market and sell these planes as well, so my feelings won't be hurt if you don't want to product support your competitors product.

fastest, you may want to PM Bob Paris (whom posted on the previous page). He had the HK 20cc version (is yours the 20cc?) and might be of more precise help. Tho I assume Gerry will know too, as they were both made in the same factory (from what I read?).

One question I had was, do the wings need any modifications to receive the Oleo struts? I've never worked with them before, so have no clue on how they will be secured. Granted, I haven't gotten them yet, so it may be clearer when I have them in hand.

Mine is a 30cc airframe with cheap HK TGY 52cc engine. I don't know much about oleo struts either. That's why I had put my geebee on the back burner and was waiting to see how others set them up.

The only mode needed to mount the oleo struts is drilling a hole on the other side. This will allow the extra pin to drop in. Instead of the one pin going into the wing, there are two. One on each side..... Understand??
On the wires.... The blind nuts are already in the wing... Best way to find them is to heat the wing about 2/3rds the way out. Flying wires are NOT needed, they are there for looks is all.
Oleos were to be here BEFORE the Chinese New Year but did not make it out....... They are due back Monday (2/10) I will find out more than....
Let me know if more information is needed...
OH.... If you have the HK GB.. I do not know if they have the blind nuts in the wing....

Thanks guys, I found them exactly where you said they were and picture helped a lot. Before poking through the covering I verified that blind nuts were there with a rare earth magnet. Sure enough they were there.

Any pricing on the oleo struts? I might just have to buy a pair. Please let me know.

Thanks,
Robert

Wanted to get spare wing bolts, but nothing I find matches the threads. A 1/4x20 nut will thread on the stock bolt, but a 1/4x20 bolt wont go into the wing. Doesnt appear to be 1/4x28 or 6mm either. Help!

The 4 clear tubing is for tuned pipe. The metal piece, I am not aware of that one.

Some progress made, but not moving all that fast. I've got the engine standoffs locktited on, and the engine temporarily mounted. Had to cut the bottom corner of the firewall to give room for the pitts muffler. I reinforced the cut corner with ply and triangle stock. The ignition box is mounted and the remote cutoff module is ready to be mounted. Added thin ply to one of the lightening holes in the side to mount my fuel dot. I decided to mount my throttle servo up against the top of the firewall box, which will give a short and straight pushrod connection. I also mocked up the pull-pull setup. With the stock horn, the wires are rubbing on the fuselage slot. I ordered a 4" double horn (since the rudder control horn rod is 4"), which should change the angle enough to prevent that and be better geometry.

I did find an answer to the wing bolt mystery. They are 6mm x 1.25, which is basically IMPOSSIBLE to find replacements for locally. Can't even find a tap (without ordering online). It seems 1.25 thread only comes on 8mm bolts. Gerry, it would be a lot easier to get replacement wing bolts if they were a more standard size of 6mm x 1 or 1/4x20. I'm going to see what it'll take to pop out the blind nuts and replace them with a better thread choice. I also noticed the stock bolts will only thread into 2 of the 4 nuts...1 on each wing. I think the outer plywood hole is half a millimeter off. I'm going to dremel it out a bit and hope that fixes it.

I also came up with some ideas for the front wing bolt. With it right under the tank tray, the space between the back edge of the tray and the wing tub is barely big enough for my hand to get in there to turn the bolt. It would be extremely frustrating to do at the field. I'm considering putting a plywood bridge in the wing hole between the forward bolt hole and the wing tube, putting in a flying wire bracket or hook, and using a turnbuckle with some fully threaded 4-40 rod to connect the two and hold it all together. Leaving the front bolts out just doesn't make me comfortable, even though the wing is recessed into the fuse and prolly couldnt go anywhere.

Noted and will pass on.... Also.. we have noticed that many of the nuts have GLUE in them. So you might need to clean them out if the bolt does not work well.

I ended up using my 1/4x20 tap to knock the blind nuts out. It wasnt difficult being there wasn't much glue on them. I'll be replacing the rear ones with 1/4x20, since thats the bolts I already bought. I checked them all afterwards, and the stock bolts threaded fine on all four...which means the plywood hole was throwing it off-center.

Any update on the Oleos?

Questions about the 30cc GMP version. What does it come with for hardware? Any pics of the kit contents? Spinner? Carbon wing tube? Type of wheels? Have the landing gear been improved? My finger is hovering over the buy button but why spend the extra $50 to get it from GMP and not HK?

Thanks, this is the hardware from GMP correct? It looks like they have better surface control horns but otherwise the same as HK. Is there a spinner included? What kind of wing and stab tube?

Yeah this is the GMP stuff. All good quality hardware that I know Gerry has upgraded a few times. Carbon fiber spinner and tubes. IMO, support US business by buying from Gerry. You'll get it much faster, and prolly cost less to ship.

Cost to ship is less but kit is quite a bit more equaling about $50 cheaper from HK. But yes I agree wit the support US and all... Thanks.
