Anybody tried balancing yet? Mine came in somewhat nose heavy. I ended up adding 5.8 oz to the rear hatch.

Mine is definitely nose heavy with the G-62 engine. Useful tail weight mods are stabilizer-mounted elevator servos using the surface-mount servo holders from Hobby Express. I epoxied a 1/8" plywood spacer for servo clearance to the stab. This also gives the mounting screws something solid to bite into. This mod will also make removing the stab/elevator halves easy for transport.

Capt G congrats!!! What was your final ready-to-fly weight? Looks like it prefers to take off and land in a 3-point attitude. Very nice! Still waiting for my custom muffler, so taking my time with the build.

CARP! Just did a full balance check with muffler. My engine is WAY too heavy, needed a 2 pound block of iron on the tail to balance! Guess I should have gone with a short-nosed fighter. Anyway, will probably go electric now, as I already have 6s 5000 mAh LiPo packs. FOO!!

Sorry to hear that. I had a feeling that the G-62 might be too heavy. The original in the factory video is set up for, and flying on a DLE 61. That and a DLE 55 are plenty of power and they are light.

Congrats Capt., looks like I'm falling way behind. That sure looks good in a deep blue sky... wonder how bad it will be contrast-wise on a solid overcast day (yeah, I know, you don't get those in Vegas...).

What size 3-blade prop are you using on your Rotomax 50cc outrunner? 12 S Lipo? Flight times? If I can't get my custom muffler order cancelled, I may go electric. If I CAN, then the DLE 61 with a custom muffler would be a strong possibility. Hate to have to spend the cash for a muffler I won't need (durr).

(Anyone need a 6 pound G-62 with cup mount, spring starter, custom intake parts and a standard wraparound Bisson Pitts muffler?? I may have to resurrect the old ASM 120" Cessna 182)

My go to prop for this motor is a XOAR 22x14 2 blade but I wanted a scale look. This is a 20x12 3-blade . On 12s x5000 I have the timer set at 5 mins and have about 20-25% left on moderate hard flying.

Power decision made: DLE 61. Ordered through my local hobby shop on Tuesday, got it today, plus some accessories. This thing is VERY light, less than 4 lbs ready to run. Have test fit it and placed an order for a custom Pitts quiet muffler from Bisson, was able to get the other one cancelled, although, it might have fit. Wing servos installed, ready for removal and CYA in all the screw holes. Went with large Robart hinges on the lower edge of the flaps, for more "flap-like" action, rather than center hinged. Oh yes, the flap horn is reversed for better geometry. Rudder and tailwheel are mounted and cables installed. Next is finish the elevators, then epoxy the inside of the motor box.

Capt G, We have one ready for its maiden also with electric power. Are you using the recommended throws on the elevator ? It sure looks like it is not enough for good control on the elevator. Thanks, Wayne

The rec throws were good but i did program mid and high rates too. I only ended up increasing the ailerons a bit. Just finished the cockpit makeover but rcu won't let me upload pics. Bah!

Hope you saved some weight, too. That vinyl guy and his seat are HEAVY!

Got the CalGrafix markings applied, finishing up little details. Awaiting the custom muffler for final ignition component layout and balancing. (will have to assemble the beast on the back lawn to install the wing struts, NO room in the basement for that)

The new cockpit ended up 5 oz heavier. Should not be an issue as i can move my batts aft a bit. Still can't post pics but you can see them here post #156

I got my 1/4 scale old-timer pilot from Premier Pilots.net, an open cockpit 1912 Blackburn wouldn't look right without someone hanging out of it: 1/4 Vintage Pilots
Looks like their RAF pilot is on sale!!! 1/4 Scale RAF Pilot
I'll have to get one.
