How well does the OS 160 Gemini power the Hanger 9 Cub on floats ? I have a 160 in a BUSA 1/4 Cub and I love it but it is on wheels and it is a bit bigger and heavier than the Hanger 9 Cub .. I also have a PA18 with a G26 in it .I like the economy of the gasser but the putt putt putt of the Gemini is hard to beat ..

bikerbc,
I fly my BUSA 1/4 scale cub on the OS 160 twin also and agree with you 100% about the sound of the engine. A perfect combination.I use the EDR on board glo start plugged into ch.5 to light the plugs. Can't wait to get my 1/4 scale
H-9 Piper J-3 /super cub conversion on floats this coming spring.Stuck the G-26 on it for a little extra power just in case. Jim

Hey Guys, i've got a one of these 1/4 scale planes i bought off a guy, claimed it was stepped on, that is fine, all of the fusleage has been rebuilt and converted to a super cub with respect to wider firewall, skylight, rudder and elevator changes, and cowling... now, i am getting to the wings and adding flaps and scale access panel for fuel tank. I have just realized that these are scratch built wings, which is also fine but they seem a lot longer than the original wings. each wing is 52.5" long and 14.75" wide, can anyone else measure one of there wings for me? I would sure like to know the history of this plane! Also, could someone weigh one as well? It would be greatly appreciated! Happy New Year!

HELI-MECH,
I measured my wings for you. Each panel is right at 49.75" long and 14.75" wide. As long as the wings fit at the fuse and are supported correctly with the struts ,I wouldn't worry about the little extra length. Instead of a "clipped wing" cub, you have an "extended wing" cub.

Thanks for the reply, she will be a floater... maybe better on floats too. I will go with it, it has the hangar 9 wing struts and two wing tubes that go through fuse plus the nylon nut. Interesting.

Here are some pics of progress. The green sheets over wing are thin aluminum simulating the fuel cell access panel but will have the flap servo inside that area. Work in progress. Trying to avoid recovering whole wing but will know when i start to reassemble everything to see if i need to strip them right down to recover. Wider firewall was a good project too

Im using the hangar 9 ultracote hanu884 cub yellow covering and the paint I had mixed up at a local automotive shop. I brought in the old cowl and a piece of covering and they did a great job matching it.

Semi-Fowler Flap????
Hey guys, any thoughts here? I was thinking of going this route for a semi-fowler flap, this semi-fowler flap goes back as well as down when deployed... Back Country Super cubs uses it on there Mackey SQ2. http://www.supercub.com/outlaw2.html
I would achieve this with the robart hinges installed in the position in these pictures.

If you would like to see an easy method of fabricating semi-fowler flaps, Go to the H9 PA18 web page and look at the Instruction Manual to see this method as used on their flap installation.

My Super Cub is finished except I don't have an engine in it. Was going to put Evolution 33 in it but I saw on one of the threads it wont fit . The muffler wont clear the firewall you have to hack it . Another option is to side mount it but the plug and boot stick out the side of the cowl.If I go with longer motor mounts the prop shaft sticks out to much. Anyone have this set up installed I would like your input please.

Any thoughts guys? I have the flaps going on now, servo in wing, i'll have to use custom length push rods, with 1/4 scale size plane would a z bend on the servo side be ok?

My plane is the j3 ARF from Hangar 9, not the new PA18. I am converting mine to the pa18, and the flaps have been added after, the pics are above of some of the conversion. So i need to make custom length push rods.

Sorry i just read this, didnt see the post. The conversion is going well. I have the flaps made, and the wings recovered. The new servo trays are made as well. I found out the wings for this plane have been rebuilt from scratch, they are actually a wing span of about 111 inches. Looking good though and happy with the way things are coming. The only thing i didnt like the way it came out is the robart pin hinge location. I lined them up with wing ribs sorry they werent very cenetered. I had to go this way as there wasnt that much material for mounting the hinges too. I have made the servo hidden in the wing and made a false "fuel access panel" on the top of the wing like the full size. Thats where the flap servo is hidden.
