we have flown it using a 5x5 prop before seeing your post about using the 4.75x4.75.
performance is good!!!!!!!!!!!! but things are warming up slightly higher than hoped.

will try it again hopefully tues or wed nite,

will let you know how it goes.

might be an idea to add more or open up the cooling holes...

Motor & Setup Question- Orig FJ (not Ultra)
Fellas, I have this motor on my FJ, running 3S and an APC 6x5.5E. Very fast, fantastic vertical:

http://www.graysonhobby.com/catalog/...bec-p-645.html

So this is a 2550kw motor, right?

I also have an Eflite 6-Series 2700kw motor I'd like to try in place of the above motor, just for giggles.

So you guys who know your motors...what do you think?
Would the higher-kv 6-series be an improvement (however defined) over the Grayson motor (for now I'd still be 3S/ 50A esc)?

If so, what prop ?

Thx gents!!

Jeff

Nigel ... let us know how she goes, I was about to do the same as you, as I have a 2W-25 ... all the best.
flown the funjet tonite using an apc 4.75x4.75 prop.
found to be a tad slower than using the 5x5. temps where around the same also duration wasnt any different.
either/or prop seems to work well.

give your set up a go. you wont regret it!!!!!

no big mods realy.

im using savox 256 servos, good strong servo and enough for the job,
elevon horns are glued as per instructions and also bolted through the elevon, plastic plate on the top surface to spread the load. didnt want to rely on the glued joint!!!!!!!!!!!

made the air intakes bigger and added another above the esc.

hacked a good amount of foam out to fit the 6 cell lipo, also making sure enough air can pass by it.

didnt realise how much fun you could have with a piece of foam,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and dare i say it,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, its faster than one of my gas turbines!!!!!!!!

poison is good for you,,,,,,,,,, especially in these amounts!!!!!!!!

Nigel ... You are EVIL! i shall pop by the LHS and stimulte the local economy. One friend dorked the launch of my FJ Ultra on its maiden flight. Was using a SAPAC EDF outrunner on 3s, its good for 4s with a 6x4. May get both FJs since I got two power systems. Let's see how it goes, also from now on its bungee launches only. Have a good weekend flying.

its not me thats evil.........................its the funjets fault
got to watch the roll to the left on hand launching, perhaps bungee is the way, especially with the extra weight.
hopefully the weather will hold off for another thrash.

have fun,

Yep, indeed...but just as good, read the motor specs!!! Grayson motor is 3200kw, 6-series motor is 2200kw

So, it's a step back

On the watt-meter...what's everyone using?

Can anybody recommend a decent motor from hobbypartz or hobbyking?

The ARC 28-47-1.5 on 4S. It's a 400W motor but I've run it past 700W. Use 60A ESC. $65 at lightflightrc.com

Jeff ... Cheap motors do not enjoy abuse. Try the SAPAC motor for their 70mm EDFs, run it on 4S with a 6x4 and a 120A ESC ... very fast and thrilling ... I got the stuff but not got the plane up yet, seen many on that config fly ... All were the FJ Ultras

Which E-Flite 6 series do you have, the 2700kv or the 2000kv ??

Here is a MEGA 16-35-2 running 6s2650 batts and an APC E 6x5.5 prop in my Ultra, hand launching is easy.
See if its fast enough for ya

Surprised not many have gone for 8S setups or higher cell counts.

Many people "ALREADY" have identical packs. 2 of them can be used in series to feed a powerful motor.

Castle Creations ICE ESCs are good for 8S....many people already have ICE ESCs or are interested in getting them for the data logging feature besides being good ESCs.

Since many people already have the packs, that means a good motor selection (after research) will lead to some incredible power and speed.

3S+3S=6S MAX Voltage for many of older ESCs, MAX Voltage for ICE Lite.
4S+3S=7S
4S+4S=8S MAX Voltage for ICE ESC.
5S+4S=9S Needs HV ESC, or ICE HV. (12S max for most HV ESCs)
5S+5S=10S....and so on.

One pack in front of another, Heavier pack in rear.

***All cells must be identical, Same manufacturer, same "C" rating, same mAH, Close to same conditional and performance.
I would raise the cutoff voltage just a small bit for added insurance.

The more power that you have, and the faster that you want to go: Remember, minimum acceptable prop size requirement needs to get raised.
A prop that works at 130 MPH may not be big enough for 170MPH level flight.
(So high Watts without enough prop size is a BAD combination)
The larger prop and higher power together will require more capable motors. {Generally larger/longer and lower KV, maybe higher quality}

ICE 100A ESC
4S-2500 65C + 4S-2500 65C = 8S-2500 65C

……. Add Killer motor here, and big enough prop for your combination of power and speed(maybe APC Pylon pending combination).

8S-2200 45C
9S-2200 with HV ESC
Choices are endless.

What parts do you have that you can design around?
Have fun fantasizing!!!

Note: due to cubic rule; Doubling the power will get you 25-26% more speed.
3 times the power: 44% more speed
4 times the power: 58% more speed
50% more power: 14% more speed

I have been thinking about this.
My 16-35-2 motor on 6 cells is absolutely a terrific fun flier with an APC E 6x5.5 prop.

If I was wanting more speed, and was using an ICE 100 (green ESC), wanted to run an APC Pylon 6.5x6.5 prop, and could run 8s2650, what motor would you suggest I use ???

Speed is key, but having fun is paramount, so full throttle all the way is necessary !!!!

Also which radar gun? Quality guns are very accurate. As long as it wasn't a bushnell or equivalent, you are good. As for the video, all we need is clean audio of level passes in both directions. Easy to doppler if you want to make it official .

snatch-it,

Since no one has ever proven that a 5X5 can let a Funjet reach 160 MPH in a level flight...(even 150 MPH) then you must have dived and likely had a tail wind.

There is nothing wrong with diving and/or having tail wind, but when reporting high speeds, then your post MUST include that information.

Some poor sap is going to copy your setup and come up very very short.

That motor runs great on 4S , 5S might be possibility even though the prop size may not be so ideal.

***That setup will fly slower on 6S than on 5S (horrible 6S prop size for the power, drag of the airframe....and projected speeds).

Please be careful not to pass on bad information and make sure your post is complete.

***6 months has gone by and you did not answer what was asked of you....even though we damn well know the answer. You did dive BIG TIME!!!

Hello everyone,

I have a Funjet Ultra and using the "power pack" motor, metal motor mount and prop from Multiplex

My question it does anyone know if the plane flies better with the Multiplex Propeller 6x5.5
( http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXBFBP&P=7)

At $7.49 each is there any benefit to using the Multiplex Propeller over a good cheap APC prop?

Thanks

Joe
