I remember now why we put loctite on nuts and bolts. I decided at last minute , like 5 in the morning, that I would take the skis off of my cub and throw the wheels on so I can stop on my way home from work for a quick flight. So I did, and I forgot the loc-tite. So needless to say, I take off, do a couple of flyby s, every things fine, then I see something fall off. I knew it right away I forgot a very important step. So I come by for a low and slow to check it out, and the other one fell off literally right in front of me. I'm like ***?this is only the third time I take it out. It's brand new. So after a couple of go around s, I bring it in so perfectly, the thing didn't even do a nose over. It was a absolute perfect landing wheeeew. How lucky. I almost learned a big lesson. Well, I did learn a big lesson, but I still have a brand new cub and not a beat up cub. Just thought I'd share that with ya. Steve.

Here here! That's a good thing to know, that you can land without landing gear!

Oh, and about building, yeah I love it. It is a stress relief after work to spend some time being creative. Also I can say "I made that!"

I am like you, I found early on that building was great stress relief. I spend a lot of time in the work shop. Also, I get a lot of self satisfaction, a sense of accomplishment and being creative to produce something that actually flys.

That's what I like. I can make things fly. And look pretty good doing it too.

Wheels won't fall off if you do this! Here's the way I mounted mine on my PA-12. The hub caps can even fit over these.

I've always thought about doing something like that. Maybe it's time. That was the first time I ever lost ANYTHING off a plane. I usualy never forget to loc tite stuff, but I was still half asleep. What kind of material did you use for the axle peg?thanks for the idea, Steve.

Hi John,
Yes, I do run a glow driver on my OS 1.60. Comes on below 1/2 throttle. Works well.

Hi Rafeek !

I used a Mc Daniels glow driver set up. The part # is MCD 472. The web page is........Sonictronics.com. Look on the left for "on board glow drivers". I just looked on Ebay, there are 3 of them listed at this time. Use "on board glow driver" for the search phrase for ebay listings. I like this brand as the battery and the electronics are all in a plastic box that is about 2 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches. just mount the box and plug in the wire leads. Also listed is a OS 1.60 flat twin WITH the Mc daniels glow driver INCLUDED for 475.00. This is a great buy. I just purchased a OS 1.60 last month and paid $550.00 for it WITHOUT the glow driver ! Let me know if you have any more questions. I'm thinking about grabing the engine for a future project !

Hi Steve, I use brass tubes over music wire stubs. Pre drill the cotter hole (the difficult part) then 'adjust' that end with a Dremel. Next, Stay Brite solder the washer to fit wheel width then cut tube with Dremel. Epoxy tube to axle stub.

My brother was cleaning out his basement and came across a Sig 1/6 L-4 cub that I gave him about 8 years and 2 moves ago. The wings folded (flew without struts and its got a greenhouse on top which needs the strut support) He was going to repair but basically lost interest in planes. I took the plane back yesterday to repair and convert to electric but it is missing some parts and he doesnt know where they are. Would anyone have a scan of the plans or spares laying around for some $? I am looking for landing gear (wire is fine or even the dimensions so I can build my own) a cowl (again measurements would work in a pinch) and struts. I could always build a set of these also, but I literally have 3 large scale planes that I am juggling, taking up all my building space and was hoping to get some parts or bits to get this thing in the air quickly. Thanks.

Warren
