I would like to thank you all for posting on this thread. When everyone gets their ideas and comments accross without making derogatory remarks about each other or their opinions, it is so much more refreshing!
I have been dreaming about one of these 1/4 scale Cub gassers, since I started flying R/C Airplanes in January and due to the investment cost and my lack of experience, I opted to build a H9 80" version with a Saito FS72. I also bought the floats for it in anticipation of doing some flying off the lake. Perhaps later this year I wil get the quarter scale version.
So far it has been very enjoyable to fly and provides a bit of a challenge, as it is my second plane and I have only got about 5-6 (self taught) hours on the sticks. I was able to pass my Wings Exam last week though at the local club field, so I plan on burning lots of Methanol this summer.
Keep 'em in the air!
CHeerz,

Hi
Awesome photos and a great looking Cub! What engine do you have in your Piper? It must be way overpowered to perform knife edge.

That's the PNP Cub all stock with the Zenoah 20cc motor. It is by no means "overpowered" but I was pleasantly surprised at the full range of aerobatics this plane will do! Of course most flights consist of hammerheads and touch and goes!

Cub owners UNITE!

Joe,
Can't believe you're flying a Cub!! Seeing the way you are flying it lets me know you're still the same Joe I flew with at El Toro before it closed. I've been waiting for the floats to arrive for this Cub as I have a Evo 26GT waiting to be mounted in the nose. Now that I have 4 float planes one more won't hurt!! And yes, I am still traveling for the race team and hardly ever get to fly - some things never change. At least I am getting into gassers - finally!!

Hey Joe,

Great looking photos as you would expect!!!!!!!!!!

The photos are a great testimonial that your sticks are still over the top.

The floats are on the water and should arrive soon, and I think remember seeing an early order with your name on it. The second shipment will be here shortly thereafter to fill the remainder of all of the BO's. It looks like these floats will be quite popular and I hope we can come up with come follow on subjects to use these floats.

I wonder if anyone who reads this has some ideas??????????????

Look forward to seeing some photos from you and your Cubon floats. We had a blast flying the PNP Cubs at the Nall 2 weeks ago. one model we were flying was the
# 1 prototype J-3 Cub ARF and she even survived a few slap and goes by Gummy Bear (Chris Huhn).

Hope to see you sometime in the near future.

I have 86 flights on my PNP Cub now and can't wait to get the floats. My local hooby shop says they ordered several of them as soon as they heard about them and the first set has my name on them.

To BBrundle,
There is one thing I would like to be able to purchase as a replacement item. I would like to be able to get replacement landing gear springs and replacement landing gear to fuselage mounting brackets. My springs are sagging agin after I have cut a loop off three times now on each one to give it the full tension again. and the mounting brackets (gear to fuse bracket) are wearing badly where the pivot bolt goes through. I am sure this is because of all the touch and go's and slips to a landing on one wheel carrying it all the way down the runway before lifting off again from the one wheel... what fun this plane is! I have not had nay hard bounces or bad landings yet so i do not think this wear is because of abuse.
Currently the only way I can get these replacement parts is to buy the complete landing gear set for nearly $50. Too much! And too many extra parts I do not need.

I LOVE Flying this plane!!!

Yes Russ...It is the same Joe. It actually took a local friend of mine a while to "convince me" that a Cub would be fun to fly, but now that I have one...I'm hooked! Sure, I've pursued the pinnacle of the hobby with IMAC and Jets, but it sure is refreshing to enjoy a plane you can put together in a few hours, then spent 30 minutes on one tank boring holes in the sky and shooting touch and goes with! Sure, the Cali Jet Crew all teased me, but they're all placing orders for theirs this week!

Bill,
As far as I know I got my order in first and if my floats don't go out with the first shipment I'm flying to China to pick mine up in person!

You guys must not have heard about the "yellow swarm" event at Cub Nuts last September, in Molalla, Oregon, when we managed to get EIGHTEEN Cubs in the air all at the same time, flying down the length of the runway and then entering the downwind circuit over and over again. My Cub ran out of fuel toward the end, and I had to deadstick it down, but there were still a handful flying when I touched down. Fun! (Talk about having to keep your eye on YOUR airplane!)

I guess it would be easy if you just follow your yellow Cub plane Right!!!!

Wow 18 Cubs...sounds like fun!

JD,

I'm guessing that 200' would be a good size runway to have at your disposal. I flew it off of a Soccer field with absolutely no problem.

Ed,

The RX switch is under the rear seat and the ignition switch is up in the front floor just opposite of the operable door. They both have a charge jack built in to the switch for the purposeof charging and checking your battery voltage.

Thanks for the reply. I was just on the step of installing the receiver and I could not find a charge jack or switch. The seat is still in the plastic. Hope to be flying soon.

I'm thinking a touch and go, last man standing marathon. All cubs in the air in tha pattern, doing laps, one touch and go per lap, ground loop or miss a landing and you're out!

Does anyone know if there is a thread for the 80" version of this plane from hangar 9?

I have not looked for a thread on the 80"cub. I have one on Hangar 9 floats with a Saito 82 four stroke engine. Seems like a perfect combination. Flies great from the water and love the water rudder servo mounted in the float.
I am anxious to get the floats for my 25% PNP Cub when they arrive at my local hobby shop.
