Misterbill -
Beautiful job on the interior....!
What was the textured paneling you used for the interior? I think the controls on the cabin wall are beyond me, but I'd be interested in how they were done.
Regards,
Gordon

RE: Bob Nelitz 1/3 Scale J-3 Short Kit build
The full size J3 I'm modelling actually has aluminium 'tread-plate' style sheeting in the interior, replacing the more usual fabric covering.
I've replicated it with appropriately scale sized styrene sheeting found at an architectural model supply store.
The rest of the interior is scratch built, the seat frames, rudder & brake pedals are from 'Evergreen' styrene tube, control cables are actually braided cable, the rear sling seat is a canvas 'lookalike' fabric stitched accordingly. Though not in the pics the whole control column assembly is made & ready to fit, created from styrene tube, litho plate, and miniature hex head lag bolts.
All the inner controls on the cabin wall are litho plate, aluminium sheeting, wire, beads, miniature screws etc.
The fuel on/off unit was vac formed from styrene.
It's really all just junk box stuff. A good scratch scale modeler NEVER throws anything away just in case......you never know.......
Everything is designed to disassemble and be removable for radio/battery/servo access under the rear sling seat.
The radio switches (2) and charge points are under the yet to be installed flip up front seat cushion.
There's still a bit to do & I'll post some more pix when it's done.
Cheers,
Mike

Ok, so here's the now done panel, on the bench as well as a PEV (Pilot's Eye View) with it in place at last.
Plus a couple of shots of the tricky front screen trial fitting.
Cheers,
Mike

Don't want to step on any toes, but there was an ad here very recently for someone selling the laser cut metal parts for the Nelitz cub here on RCU. DOn't know who it was, and the ad is gone. I believe they were asking 40 bucks for the set and had several to sell. Any help would be appreciated. Myself and two buddies want a set, I think we are going to build three of these!
THanks for the help!

Hi, EddieC, I used Harris Safety-Silv. 56% silver brazing alloy. My local welding supply has it.
Hang on to your shirt as it is $$ was $60.00 a troy oz. I paid $48.00 three months ago,
no telling now. I love the way this product flows in the joints, and very strong!
More pics.

Thanx Don. I have SS, not sure the percent but will check. I like your jigs, maybe this is another item you could make available. Is the gear you made detailed per the kit or your own design? Looks very stout, very nice job!

eddieC, This landing gear is the Bob Nelitz design on the third scale cub plan and is very accurate.
Also have factory drawings of gear, and Bob did a great job. Just about dead on.
Remember silver solder is low temp.Like Stay-Brite a common silver solder is only 430 degrees
Silver brazing is high temp 1200+ degrees.Bob talks about this on page one in the original magazine article.
See page 1 post 42 for magazine article.
more pics. parts bead blasted, ready for metal prep & primer. First pic just brazed.

Thanks for the pics, Don, I'm sure they will help. I also just sent you a PM on the parts with an update. Would I be able to just mig this stuff? I don't know how to braze, and I'm sure I could silver solder, but I can dang sure mig weld this. Penny for your thoughts, guys!

Mike,
What is the silver corrugation underneath the dashboard.....I don't see that in all Cubs, but I have seen it in some....
Is it pressed metal? Homemade I presume?!?
Let me know.....

It's the firewall - and should be present on certainly most Cubs - however, not that often shiny - the one I'm modelling has had a restoration, and the guys decided to polish the aluminum up. Seen a few others like that too, plus of course a bunch painted black etc. The ribs are strengthening ribs, pressed into the firewall.
Hope that helps!

Please correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the corrugations on the rear face of the fuel tank? The firewall is between the tank and the engine.

The only pics with corrugation I see are the fuel tank on p. 9 of this thread. Are those the ones in question? Also, how are you painting , HVLP gun? Thanks, an amazing build.

Ok, so there are reinforcing 'corrugations' pressed into the ends of the fuel tank, and there are reinforcing ribs pressed into the firewall - those are the ones I was referring to in my earlier post. I've attached another pic of the Cub interior from another angle, which should help clear it up....
