Default RE: ~~Sig Kadet Brotherhood~~.

I love playing with airframes in this hobby!

I have taken Sig Kadets and done all sorts of things to them. Had a Kadet Senior with bell cranks and ailerons for a bit, have a LT 40 ARF that I traded for and whacked on the wing a bit, making it bolt on and flat from tip to tip (VEG!), added lights for night fly and plan on converting it to it a tail dragger in the next few months. Gotta have something crazy to play with when I break the expensive stuff [:@] Still have not found the happy place for downthrust, but that is what experimenting is for! It is very hard to drag the wing tips of a Kadet.

So this is the Sig Kadet Brotherhood...

Didn't I see someone talk about Kougars? I built the 25 sized and was bored, the .60 sized and it was just too much work, so I stayed with the Kougar. After my OS .45 ABC started free wheeling during a dead stick, I converted to Saito 50 - then 56. Had to add 1 inch to the LG legs to clear the 12x6 props, but what a combo! I used to find really strange ways to end them...from chasing cows (and discovering they were protected by trees) to pulling too hard on the turn just after takeoff - most of my crashes were from less than 5 feet more often than not at full throttle . Lost aileron servo on one and dorked it 10 feet from a buddy who had is back turned. They were quick to build, easy to fly, durable (to a point), and I got so that I could tell if you were about to crash from pulling too hard in the turns. After 21 I stopped building those. It was fun and I won a steak dinner the Saturday I flew an new one we bought in the box the previous Saturday afternoon, but when we changed fields the nose dragger with long legs just didn't work too well.

Someone what to start a Kougar Brotherhood?

Just hooking up the controls and the break in!

How's chances of joining up? I built these in and around 1984-1986 then my life took other turns. The Senior hasn't been maidened. I need at least to replace the reciever and battery to go with the uptodate transmitter I bought. The OS 40 needs to be cleaned lubed and broken in and then I can get out to the feild on training day. The MK II was my first build and has one flight - same story for gettin it ready to fly. Go a hord of kits to work on so I'll keep this short. Regards, Cliffc

Back about 8 years ago when I was building my Kadet Senior there was a website with a bunch of custom Kadets but now I cant find the website. Does anybody know if the website is still up?

I have a Saito 90 twin that I think I am going to build a bashed Kadet Senior for. I am thinking of changing a few lines on the fuse to look more like a Monocoupe but wanted to get some ideas from that website. I have too many scale projects right now and wanted to build something just for the fun of it.

Hello everyone, I guess I can be included in this Brotherhood. I have 2 Kadets from quite a few years ago. The red one has had a wing repair and a couple of years ago, re-covered the whole plane, and hasn't flown yet. The yellow one was finished just last year, and hasn't been in the air yet. Can't wait to maiden it this week.
I'm trying to get my son into the hobby, and I also have a Hobbico Superstar. So I was thinking of getting rid of the red Kadet, since it's been thru a lot, and I need to weed some planes out. Do you think I'm doing the right thing, or should I keep the kadets and get rid of the Superstar?
Great thread, really enjoyed seeing all the different kadets.

Evan

Several of the guys in my club use Kadet Seniors for night flyers. Load the wing bays, fuselage and tail feathers with LED lights and cover with transparent covering. They really show up well and fly nice and slow in the darkness. A guy in the club offered to give me a Kadet SR that has seen better days. I will strip all the covering and convert to a 4ch and add lights. I will post some pics once I get the plane and get started.
Later!!
Anthony

There are some fine looking Kadets being posted.  I will remind Ken that it is of the nature of the Kadets to be re-kitted from time to time so photo's aren't always available.  I managed to silo mine for 20+ years until I had a digital camera. :-)  It'll be a shock to my system to get the Sr in the air.  In fact I've got an errand to run this morning, I think I'll stop by my LHS and get a couple of four channel receivers and some batteries and move this program along.  Best Regards,  Cliffc

Gary,

I do not post here as I do not have a Kadet but I follow the thread attentively.

I just wish to offer my condolences for your lost. It is always sad to loose a loved one.
