Field testing continued.
So once I had the wing on and I did a prelim balance next was to test all the other functions.
Ailerons working great, flaps working, elevator and ruder.
The canopy and all the nav lights, all systems go
Still cloudy and I am well into the inspection phase.
Now it is time for Johnny 5 to do some real time testing
More to come!

So as to the weight. I weighed her full of fuel as this will be my take off weight.
30lb on the dot, ant she pretty
So I knew she was going to be a "big girl" and the first chippie was 24lb wet so I am not surprised with the 30lb wet weight.
The first flew great and this one will fly great too.
I would be worried but after maddening the prototype of Angie at 37lb dry and almost 10lb heavier then most are flying that plane.
It flew great, and it would land slow too.

The sun final came out so I got some sunlit pics.
Yesterday was a perfect day, man I wanted to just go for it, but better to do all the testing first
Vikie at getStencils is sending me a new sheet of dry ink transfers. Sometimes they go dry and the backing was unattached to my sheet. Hope it works.

With the build completed and a success I would like to thank all for the support, builds like this aren't easy and all the help makes a difference.
A special thanks to Chad Veich, with out his help this detailed bird would not be what it is. Thank you to my mentors Tom and Edwin, and to the many others at my fields that constaintly rib me for building such heavy birds, I cant help it I like em robust
With just a few more details to go and then the maiden I am feeling good about this bird.
A short walk around video.

Once I get the servo thing worked out and I may play around with a different mounting system, more dampening Johnny five will be a fun addition to the flying.
Plus at one of the fields we have a video geek that loves editing and creating videos, music and all that jazz.

What's next!
Well we are getting some good rain, 5" + and it looks to be around till tomorrow. I need one more field setup day to get the flaps all tuned and to check everything out. I want to maiden without the cowl doors as to not have to worry about any heat issues on the first flight.
I got some removable weight to place in the cowl to compensate for the doors. Once I get the maiden done and can check engine temp with the telemetry I will put one door on and fly, check again then put the other door on and go for it.
Ground temps were high as I was only taxing and no air was really getting over the head at those low speeds.
I need to get my telemetry setup so I will try and do that today, got a full schedule with work coming next week. I also need to setup my trailer, field tool box, flight support box and I am working on a field setup jig that will allow the wing to be suspended over the inverted fuselage so I can connect the two thunderbolt connectors, hands free. This will lower the wing into place so that will be on the bench for today.
Vikie sent me the stencil for the 671 so I shot that last night. All that is left is the antennas and the dry ink transfers.

Not much to report today, kind of was a work, work day. I did get the antennas in and did some adjusting to the canopy. I added some 1-72 nuts to the canopy bracket that was just threaded into the G-10, Loctite was used.
The two screws that hold the canopy to the side tracks got adjusted and Loctite too.
Johnny 5 got a new servo arm base and more travel. Now I can have the camera facing dead center and with the mix on ruder it will turn equally both ways about 22.5 degrees. With the dial I can turn all the way to a 90 degree look out the cockpit.
No slippage and I made a better base for the pilot. Just tweaking. I am a bit frustrated with the telemetry. I cant get nothing to work. The one thing I don't like about Futaba is how hard things like telemetry set up is.
I guess I am just tired and I did not do a bench setup, but I don't need the telemetry to fly, I can fly by wire and I will try the T-box and Pitot tube tomorrow. It is separate from my transmitter.
So I am planning on spending the day at the field flying my Sbach, doing more setup and testing and final prep before she goes up. Who knows if all checks out and conditions are good I may go.
I try not to put to much pressure on a maiden, when she is ready and conditions are good, why not.

Tony and Leeroy:
Question for you. I have primed the wing and sanded off the primer (wet sanded). Now I am in need of the next steps. Do I prime again, lay out panel lines or what? Tony, I dont mean to hijack your thread but need a little advice.
Thanks
Glenn

Glenn,
step 1. Sand glass to satisfaction.
Step 2. Prime with high build primer.
Step 3. Sand primer down to glass.
This fills scratches, pinholes, and other defects.
Step 4. Lay panel lines (cart tape).
Step 5. High build primer for panel lines.
Step 6. Prime with your base coat primer i.e. Klass Kote primer.
Step 7. Rivets and details.
step 8. Paint.
This is is how I do it, others might do it differently.

Thanks, so it looks like I am ready to start laying down panel lines. Where would be a good place to get a set of panel line drawings? I am not going overboard on the lines but do want to add some for a little detail.
Thanks again
