RE: The Goldberg Ultimate biplane...is dead.
Just came across this thread and sorry to hear the bad news. I just got back on my build of the CG Ultimate two weeks ago. I'm going to make sure I take good care of the plans and make templates. So many good kits have gone bye bye. Times aren't what they used to be. I guess now people don't have the time they use to have back in the old days. I use to spend hours everyday building my kits 20 years ago. Now having a family and work along with the other day to day task, I don't have as much time as I did before but still have time to put a few hours a week building my kits. Glad I have a few old kits still stashed away and a stack of plans I ordred from RCM and MAN years ago.

If anyone's interested, I found one at a local shop for 150$. I can either pick it up this week and all I'll charge is shipping, or put you in touch with them and see if they'll ship it out themselves.

Well I made the 80 mile round trip to my local hobby shop to see if he had a CG Ultimate kit in stock. He did not so in order to console myself I walked out with a SIG 1/4 scale Space Walker. I know better than to walk into the hobby shop.

Does anyone know if Carl Goldberg published plans for the Utimate anwhere? I've looked at MAN and found some of his designs but not for the Ultimate. If I can no longer build the kit I could plans build the aircraft. Really wish I'd bought one last year. Same thing as wishing I'd purchased BTE Venture 60 when they were available.
Thanks,
John

JNorton, just curious, is there a hobby shop in your area that has kits in stock?

I could have sworn the goldberg ultimate was designed by platt. If so, RCM might have them.

The hobby shop around the corner from me still has a 40 sized patrick ultimate. I personally liked the dave patrick ultimate better, even though it was an arf, it was one of those rare examples of how well an arf could be, they were first class arf's. Built just the way you would build them.

Dave Patrick designed the Goldberg Ultimate; later he enlarged it to a 120 ARF under his own name.

Ya know, in less than two weeks there have been three pages worth of responses to this post. wich makes me absolutly sick of the fact that Hobbico still hides behind the "there not selling" bull.
Every flyinn I have ever been to there has been multiple CG Ultimates there. I myself have to and was planning on a third this winter. Look at the build posts on this site for them. every one has hundreds if not a thousand or more responses, people sayin "ive got one commin, Or just got strarted on mine" and so on.
Yes the kit quality my wasnt the best out there but many many people would deal with that to build the ultimate becuase it is such a great plane.
I just wish hobbico would cut the BULLCRAP, stop treating us all like were dumb and just own up to the fact that they bought the company cheap becuase it was struggling. and then saw it as a an oppertunity to get rid of a long time foe.
lets face it, Don Anderson did'nt get to were he is now buy giving the KIT BUILDER what they want. but more by gaining a monapoly in the industry and pretty much making everyone conform to the masses. all the R/C Pilots out there that like to falsely call themselfs MODELERS, buy ARFS. thats were the BIG money is with the immediate return on their investment. so that is wat we are pretty much forced to buy.
But I guess that is just the way the world is nowa-days. Not even this Care-free Fun loving world of R/C is impermiable to GREED.
So I tip my glass of jack to my favorite brand of sport planes and say goodbye. while I curse the day the ARF was dreamed of.
James.
P.S I do have one of these birds in the box still. so it looks like I will be building it soon now I will make copies of all parts.
if anyone is needing anything let me know. I'll Do my best to help

I think it's all about tooling and cost to make the kits, once the dies get worn out, they don't see it cost effective to redo the die's, plus most of the good kits that were made like the super skybolt and the CGB ultimate were made in the USA, it cost much more to make than the ARF versions that are being made in china for GP.
