Default Predator outrigger [project]

Hello
I'm biulding predator outrigger from the plans I've purchased online.
I allso have ordered a feigao 540S 7T 5070kv 93amp max. 220g 35.8mm x 50mm motor.
First of all now I think this motor is a bit too big or isn't it? I allso don't know what would be the right choice of prop esc and lipos or nimh to choose.
I'll just say that i thuoght of picking a x438prop and 2x 1700mah 20-30C lipos (in parralel)
p.s. motor and esc will be watercooled.. overall rigger lenght about 55cm (21.6")

thanx.

Default RE: Predator outrigger setup help

what are the specs of this outrigger? That motor may not be too big if you know how to set up a rigger right. What esc are you going to use that may give us an idea on lipos or nimh's. Also if you run lipo's, mabey you could run one 3s pack, so your motor will have time to cool down. It is like running a car motor 24 hours straight with no load on the engine, it will eventullay poop out ethier your batteries, esc, or motor.

Default RE: Predator outrigger setup help

what specs? there is scale drawings and allso said "a sport outrigger for 0.5brushed or brushless motor 6 or 8 cells.." the lenght as I said before.. building from ply and depron. carbon sponsor tubes for extra stiffnes and small weight.
esc 60amp. bot if thats not the right one I'll change. when I mentioned lipos, I was saying about connecting two 11.1V 1700mah packs connected in parralel rated 20-30c as this engine is capable to go up to 90amp.
mabey you could run one 3s pack, so your motor will have time to cool down
can't get that..
thanx anyway, and what about props? can't figure what to choose... [:@]

Hello. I am very familiar with the predator.
ok your motor will be OK. but just OK. usually that rigger will have a L motor.
the KV will be fine because it is a 6 cell boat.
are you new to this hobby ?
and a X438 will be WAY to big
try a X430 or X432 at most !!!

Hello. I am very familiar with the predator.
oh atlast!
usually that rigger will have a L motor
but it would weight 280grams! aint' that too mutch?
I think this motor is capable of quite big power, but if u say so
try a X430 or X432 at most !!!
ok I'll go for these.
and assuming that motor is 225grams and the hull and hardware about +/- 100-150grams, what accus I should look for?
now I'm thinking about intelect 1400 x6 two series in parralel. that could produce ~ 84A and weight ~ 278grams (ans very cheap). or go for Li-Pos.
say 2s2p 7.4v 4400mAh ~88A 240grams and a bit more $.

yes you should. the rigger was designs with them. so they are a required part of the hull.

some fotos. constructive critics are wellcome
For waterproofing I used thinned epoxy (10h); thinned with white spirit it is ok, but u have to work quickly. I was sirprised how smooth the surface was after sanding with wet sandpaper [8D] .. 1 or 2 coats to go top parts waiting for hardvare to install.

good stuff.
i was going to ask where your foam inserts are for the sponsons. then i remembered you got the plans.
Also the foam in the tub will pose a problem. It is not going to have much effect on the strength. so i would suggest you remove it. Heat of the motor and esc and batteries could melt that and be a fire hazard.

Ok, moving on a bit Still waiting for my feigao motor from UH [&o] [:@] . . .
As there was a problem with hardware shipping from offshore electrics [] so I decided to make shaft & strut (adjustable), rudder & bracket, flex shaft I bought only coupler for flex shaft and ofcourse props.. Idea about rudder bracker came from this forum (I think) It is made from carbon tube as the sponsor toubes... rudder from rudder from corcuit board (can't remember the name of that plactic )
One thing worries me... I made no special bearings (bushings) for the shaft in strut.. it is only a copper tube and a shaft is a stainless steel.. what problems I could face?
thanx.

the only advice i can give you is that you dont want to turn your cable the opposite way that it is twisted!!! currently the cable is the wrong lay for the props you have. also, if you run that cable, it will greatly reduce your number of prop choices!!

Keep the shaft well lubricated, or the two metals will wear eachother out very quick!

Just curious: why do you buy your stuff in the US, when the whole German market is much closer (and cheaper)?

of you have ever seen a flex shaft you would know it does not have any particular direction.
take it apart and you will see each layer is wound a different way. just because you see it going right does not mean it can not turn left. . or vica versa. I run it that way on my Lehner powered N2 and P offshore boat. i do not have a problem with them at all.

i guess thats why theres left hand and right hand cables, right? you COULD run a left hand cable right (and vice versa), but for low speed and less power. if you have a lot of power, it will expand, can unravel, and jam up in the stuffing tube or eat the liner..

well 100 amp,50,000 rpm and a 47 MM prop hasn't done it.
so i guess thats not alot of power

so thoughts about the motor (feigao 540s 5070kv) is it normal for that kind of motor to heat qoite quickly eaven running freely without any load.. ??

After short pause moving further
later I will post my homemade esc water cooling and fiberglass cover for engine bay
waiting for water jacket for my engine and few connectors..
I woud like to get an advice in Li-po setup (20c-30c). I can make two different setups:
1. 7.4v 3900mah pack.
2. 11.1v 2600mah pack. which setup is way to go? (motor 540s 5070kv, motor weight ~600g fully loaded, props listed earlier in the thread..)
