I for one think it makes a huge difference... the bandit doesn't need one either, but the guys flying with it, love it.. I have the cortex in several of my planes.. its makes things MUCH more relaxing.. and landings a non event..even in a 20mph crosswind.. thats the biggest improvement to me is in the pattern..

we were doing wheeelies 500 feet down the runway after landing with it at R66 with the élan.. it would track pretty straight and not lift a wing.. 10mph xw..

First, I want to say what a great thread this is. The information here has been very helpful in selecting the components I want to put in the plane. While I am not new to jets, I am new to turbines and I am planning on getting an ultra flash to build as a winter project. My plan right now is to power it with a JetCat P140-RX. But the question I keep fighting with is on the elevator servos. I have read through the forum and the instruction manual. I see the limitation of 19mm and that many of you have used the recommended JR8411s. The problem I am facing is that I have not used a 6.0 volt system in a long time. All of my planes fly on 7.4v lipos for servos and receivers and I would greatly prefer to not change this. Since the JR8411 doesn't support 7.4v, I am wondering if you guys have any recommendations for other servos that would work back there and also support native 7.4 volts.

I have been looking at some of the new brushless Hitec servos like the HSB-9465SH. But it is 0.78 inches thick instead of the required 0.75 inches. Would 0.03" be that big of a deal? I am putting together the budget right now so that I can start looking for deals that may come up as we get closer to the end of the year. Thanks for your help and as I get started on the build early next year, I will certainly keep everyone posted. Thanks

Josh

Jr 8411HV is a 7.4 v servo.

You can use JR DS8411HV high voltage servos, they are exactly the same case as the old 8411 so fit perfectly.
I do know others who have grinded away the top surface to fit a slightly larger (1mm) servo but I wouldn't recommend doing that.

They aren't overestimating the fact that there is very little room for the elevator servos so I would go with the 8411, high voltage if you prefer.

Well that settles it then. Sounds like the 8411HV is the way to go. Are there any other servos I need to be careful about size on or do the rest of them really support "standard" size servos? I am excited to get this project started and I am really enjoying looking at the great work you guys have all done and the tips you have posted. Thanks for all of the help.

Josh

Everything else will take 8711 size servos (20.5mm wide)

Use 20mm radius servo arms.

Since coming back from JP I've been working long into the night finishing this UF for test flight and hand over this Friday. P-90Rxi in this one.
Used a new finish in the cockpit, quite like it!

Another UF done for test flying tomorrow. JR XG-11 DMSS setup and P-90Rxi run.
This was an M&R "Team build" with Birdy doing the easy bits!
See some of you at Classic Jets tomorrow!

Great looking build Dave. What is the finished weight with the 90?

No idea! Never weight composite aeroplanes, nothing I can do about weight, don't add "bling" to my installs. I did have to add 200g of nose weight (small jetCat Li-Fe ecu pack) and pump and valves in turbine. I would expect it to be similar to a P-140 install as everything else is std

Hi Dave,

Could you tell us about the paint you have used here. Looks really good.

Hey Paul, looks like a metallic acrylic base coat but I am sure Dave will confirm. Good stuff to put on jet exhausts. That workbench looks like mine!

Textured Aged Iron. Company is called Rust-oleum. I have seen the speckled finished, which look OK, but too coarse for me, with the P-90Rxi I new it would need nose weight, so thought I'd try this! I do like the finish, it's thick enough to give a good coating with minimal rubbing down of the glass work. Hope the customer likes it!
Just off to a Jet Meeting to hand it over.

Thanks for the info Dave.
I couldn't find the textured aged iron in Australia but did find the stone effect rust oleum.
Ordered a spray pack to give it a go.

Considering to down size engine wise from 140N to 100N.

As i read through the spec's of the engines it will save an total weight of 1KG….

What's your guy's opinion on this one, will it be noticeable, as in, will she fly "lighter" with an 10% less wing load?

Our will it make not that much of an difference fly wise and do you say go for the extra push instead of weight saving??

Is that 'speckled' paint fuel proof?

Mines only got a Merlin 100 Midas and I love it, very light feeling on the sticks, easily enough push for around 210mph top end and very nimble, just have to use the inertia of the airframe a little more for those big loops or turn arounds, Ive got my CG quite far back (240mm) and that combined with the light wing loading makes the Take Off roll the shortest Ive seen with a UF (even on grass) and the Landing Speed is as slow as you dare My Dad's got a 140 in his and it probably is the best engine for it, but I do like the way mine feels, if you've already got a 140, then thats what Id be fitting, but I don't think you'll be dissapointed with the 100 either.

We've used the same Speckle Paint before, saves alot of time over speckling the Black and White in there separately, we were warned before using it that some of those coarse style fleck paints contain alluminium filings, Im not sure if this could cause any Radio problems, we've never had a problem with it, but it was pointed out by a friend.

Flew the model today withJR DMSS aerials inside and seems fuel proof so far! Customer very happy with his new toy, guess my UF test flights are nearing 50 and they are all a breeze, 4 years on I still think it's he best all round sports jet available, we talked today about, P-100, P-90, P-120, P-140, P-180 turbines in UF models, brilliant with all those. What else is that versatile?

Funny you should ask that I was going to post the same thing. Ive been flying mine with an early P-120 for about 20 flights and have been very happy with the plane overall. I just didnt like the slow throttle response of the older engines. I had a Kingtech 100G sitting around so im going to swap motors and try it out with a smaller engine. Going to fly it Sunday so will see!

Looks really nice guys .. .I used a dark grey engine paint on mine in the cockpit area but you cant see much with the PB and all the gear in there now.
Mines ready..just need to fly it. With family that is proving to be hard.. 88km/h winds here today...that doesnt help either...
