loved it and still do. At a rally I was doing a smoke pass went vertical to get it as light as possible for landing meaning running the saddle tanks dry as they are used for smoke
I then did a full speed pass from high alttitude and the plane dipped I pulled up and the left wing flew off and it went into a wild spin ending up with it on the ground in 3 big peices... Nothing was broken thank god just 2 stripped servos and the pilot having some brown in his pants lol sent the turbine back and servos to be checked all back and I'm ready for this Friday to maiden my amazing new Flash making it just 4 weeks from splash to blast

This may be what happened to me last week. As you know if you saw my previous post I had a main landing gear pin snap and the UF slid to a stop on it's right wingtip. I used fiberglass reinforcement and then Superfil to repair the damage. But since the wingtip looked fine otherwise I did not suspect internal damage. So I was halfway through my 5th flight of the day on my UF (17 flights total) pulling out of a descending right turn, over the runway at about 15' high, setting up for a knife edge pass, probably about 150mph or better and 2/3 throttle when the UF suddenly pitched up and to the left giving me a sickening and fleeting view of the bottom of the plane before tumbling/rolling into the asphalt. It was very violent, maybe a second or two from flying like dream to hundreds of tiny pieces. Nothing left. I've never seen anything like it, nothing but tiny pieces. The Cheetah smashed too. Maybe the servos in the tail can be used again but that is about it. I suspect the right wingtip came apart at the seam. It departed controlled flight too aggressively for any other explanation. Plus the right wing was completely gone, nothing but the spar and strips of CF/foam/wing skin. Guess I will start saving again...

That's horrible. I saw an 260 extra blow a wing once....Big Bang and a shower of little pieces. The fuse slowly tumbled to the ground. The guy was understandably devastated ...Seam on wing came apart....many flights old and weel travelled so probably a wing touch or something and not seen....you must be devastated

hope you get a new one soon....

Funny really, I have a garage full of airplanes and helis, I fly them all aggressively. But of course my new UF is the last one I would want to sacrifice to the sky gods! Murphy's Law....

Does any one of you guy's use the stock (supplied) Hopper tank?
And if yes, any issues with it?

I did try the supplied hopper tank, I found the ID of the aluminium tubing was simply too small for a larger turbine, it ended up with cavitation and fuel suction issues resulting in a flameout.
if you use it, I would suggest changing the stopper and tubing for something that will be slightly less restrictive.
for an 80 size turbine it would probably be fine.

It's almost ready. Need to program the radio still and place the antennas at different locations. Sorry about the colors of some images. It's under fluorescent lighting. The gear is Behotec C-40s electrics with electric breaks. They do fit but not drop in. Needs to be fitted. Excellent quality.

Build is going pretty fast so far, Stab, Rudder, Outer Pipe and wing servo's are already done
I'm a bit cheating cause using a lot of "left over's" from the previous one, but that saves an lot of time!
Made some extra "heath vent hole's" in the tail, not big but just for that extra breath trough to lose the heat….

This kit is 100x better as my previous one, really none hick-up's or any ****ty bits so far!! Guess my other one was an "monday morning" one or an ****ty hast job…
This one is really top notch!!

Bottom side duct in place and tank in place

Now the big question, sadel tanks or wing tank…..

Got four flights in yesterday. Probably 12 in total. Main tank started leaking and that's with on off cycling since day one as the carf tanks are too thin IMO and when pressure testing during assembly I felt they seemed too thin so I never left my pump on continuously when fueling . Strange as the Carf Hawk tank seems much more substantial. Guess it's time to order the jet tech tanks. Love the way it flies but man it gets small quick. Gonna have to start getting bigger planes for these bad old eyes.

Maybe I am just lucky or maybe the older Flash tanks were of better construction, but I have never had a problem with my flash tank. Not sure how many flights I have on it now, probably over 400 and have never used any special fueling procedures. Just hook the stock old style Jersey Modeler fuel jug up and let it rip. Only thing I have ever done is change the clunk line.

Now excuse me while I go find some wood to "knock on".

Hi Ed, Those vent holes in the tail cone look really familiar to me. Happy you like the idea
Concerning the tank setup. Save weight and go for the wing tank.

It's part of the behotec C40 set. All ordered from ultimate jets. Oli and Woody are awesome to deal with.

Hey Dave W. and everyone,

The Ultra Flash is still going strong! Too many flights to count. Originally assembled in Feb 2013 (first photos of paint posted on page 100, post 2498 of this thread), I assembled it as directed by Dave W. and the CARF instructions - it's still flying great to this day. It's had some abuse. Multiple flame-outs and a winter spent flying from a rough grass runway that has removed the undercarriage of lesser planes. Nothing seems to phase this thing.

These are shots from last weekends "Jets Over Whidbey", a 3-day jet event in Washington State. I'm on my 3rd year as CD of this event - check it out at www.jetsoverwhidbey.com. Alvin Ford captured all of these images as our designated event photog. Still looks about as good as it's first flight, all things considered.

Jetcat P140RX, Powerbox smoke, blah, blah, blah. You can't go wrong with one of these for a fun, everyday flyer.

Enjoy!

Looks great and the photos are fabulous. Still think it's the best sports jet available, I guess the sales in the UK prove that, it's still selling well and a few guys have ordered more than one.

i have an orange chequer scheme tucked away for a winter build. Up to date power plant for this one will be a P-140RXi

Thanks Dave. The P140RX is running great now that the ECU glitch has been worked out. It's a nice combination in this plane.

Take care.

Bill,

I have a 140RX I bought specially for my Flash. Is the glitch you're speaking about an isolated thing or should I send my ECU in for maintenance?

Hi Azzam,

It was a low band RF glitch. Jetcat solved the problem fall last year. Be sure you have the latest update installed in your ECU. I would check with whoever handles your service to confirm you have the current version. The problem was extremely isolated. Maybe 3 or 4 at the most here in the entire USA.

Hope that helps.

Agreed Midas. I have never understood why they dont just form/fit the canopy at the factory. Krill, Dolphin and other manufacturers do and doing a canopy is a thrill Im willing to have not the experiece of....getting better though as Im on my third comp arf one. I guess it makes it cheaper...id be happy to pay instead.....
